Nick Cheung & Esther Kwan Make Money Together on Camera Ad, Tuesday April 17, 2007 Hong Kong

Loving couple Nick Cheung and Esther Kwan have recently been signed to do a join ad for a camera company and they took part in the press conference yesterday. This time they will be filming an ad together in exchange for a six-figure sum. The photographer Eydie Tai and spokesperson Charmaine Fong were also present. Nick revealed his '3 strikes' secret photography trick, taking photographs of a little girl. However, she was looking for her mother and as a new father himself, Nick was a little lost. Fortunately Esther had some sweets handy and comforted the girl.

Asked why they did not bring their daughter with them, Esther says she cannot look after her here. This is their first time working together on an ad as they would turn the offers down in the past because they do not want to capitalise on their marriage too much. Now they have been together for many years, then they do not mind any more. Nick says that he takes a lot of photos of his daughter, but he does not trust the machines, so he will not save them to his computer, but have them all developed instead. He says that his daughter is growing up now, so to avoid her being recognised, then he will not take her out into public too much. Asked if he will put all the pictures of his daughter on the walls of his home, he says that this is a very irrational action. Esther then reveals that she did think about doing this at first though.

As for the reports that this year's Hong Kong Film Awards was very boring, as an MC on the night, Nick admits that he is lacking in experience and daren't stir up the atmosphere too much and so just followed the script. He says: "Every show has people who like it and those who don't, but this was a valuable experience for me." Nick has no plans to develop his career as an MC. Esther laughs that at first, she threatened to hide his script, but Nick refused to do it this way, otherwise he would fail tragically. Nick reveals that he has just ended his four year working relationship with Media Asia and has signed a new two-year contract with Emperor Motion Pictures, where he will be filming series on the mainland.

News Translation: Best Selling Secrets Promotion

"Best Selling Secrets" held a promotional event yesterday, attended by Esther Kwan, Alvina Kong, Elaine Jin, Angela Tong and Shek Sau, who all performed some Taichi exercises on stage with Master Li Hui. As she was wearing high heels, Alvina had to take them off to join in and as she was wearing a low cut top, she refused to do some of the bending exercises for fear of revealing herself. Afterwards, she explained that she had dressed up for the event and only when she arrived did she realise that they would be doing exercises. She did have something under her dress though, so she was not worried about revealing herself.

Earlier rumours suggested that Esther and Alvina were not getting along during filming, fighting over costumes and scenes. Alvina laughs that they are just competing over who finishes work first and do not have any interests in competing over designer costumes. Alvina feels that having some news is a good thing though because it helps to promote the show. Esther agrees and syas that they just fight over who finishes work first, saying that Alvina is a good person and is easy to get along with, so they have always got on very well.

As for the reports about TVB executives joining ATV and pulling many artistes with them, Esther's husband Nick Cheung is among those named as likely candidates, when she was asked about this, she asked jokingly in return whether they would be offering a large sum for him to move. She says she has been busy filming and not paid much attention to this, but as Nick no longer has a contract, then if it is true, she will let him decide for himself what he wants to do. Asked what she thinks about this, Esther says frankly that this is a good thing because competition leads to progression. Angela was asked if she would consider it if she was selected as a target for the ATV recruitment, she says that working at TVB was her first job and it will be her job forever.

Nick Cheung Doesn't Earn Enough Money; Esther Kwan as Breadwinner in Family




In recent months, Nick Cheung Ka Fai's filming fees have decreased. Filming for TVB again after 6 years of departure, Esther Kwan immediately set up connections for husband, Nick. Several days ago, Esther had dinner with TVB executive Chan Pui Wah to discuss new opportunities.

The 42 year old Esther was willing to sacrifice family time with her baby daughter to film for TVB's "Best Selling Secrets" sOet. Rather than simply fulfilling her "acting bug itch," Esther was in fact filming for TVB in order to earn money for the family.
After giving birth to daughter, Brittany, last year, Esther originally had plans to retire, however Nick's fees have dropped significantly. When TVB executive, Catherine Tsang, invited Esther to film a new series, Esther immediately accepted.

Express Weekly found that Esther filmed non-stop 7 days in a week, while Nick was free everyday to care for their daughter.

Nick Cheung Defends Wife

TVB has recently re-broadcast "Armed Reaction" and Esther's new series "Best Selling Secrets" with good audience reception.

Earlier, there was a report that the cast members of "Best Selling Secrets" were dissatisfied that Esther alone received credit for the series' success. Allegedly, Nick was upset about the rumors and barged into TVB City to seek out those cast members.

In a telephone interview, Nick laughed over the rumors. "I can not believe that such reports circulated; they are even more exciting than a script! I did go to TVB City, but it was only to pick up Esther and visit old colleagues!"

"Esther gets along well with the cast and crew of 'Best Selling Secrets.' She returns home each day in good spirits. I have not heard any complaints that there have been disagreements with other cast members. We can only laugh after reading such reports!"


Nick also responded to rumors that he had no filming offers, impacting his income level and thus Esther had to become the breadwinner in the family. "Oh please! I stayed home to take care of Brittany because I love my daughter and wife!"

I just found this forum (it's very late) I hope one day I will come the one part and join with all of u.
now I still try to search esther's series but it's very hard cause I'm stay in Thailand and there aren't much esther's serie in here.
I know Esther from tvb's series so now I'm very happy to see Esther come back for filming with tvb again.

TVB will be releasing three new prime time series on Monday, that are the new sitcom "Collegue Relationships", "War and Destiny" and "Life Art". A press conference was held yesterday to promote the three shows and most of the cast members were present at the grand affair. As female lead from "War" Myolie Wu was absent, the focus was placed on Gigi Lai and Esther Kwan. Gigi wore plenty of designer gear and her close fitting blouse stole the limelight from the 'housewifey' Esther.

Artistes present at yesterday's event included Esther, Alvina Kong and Elaine Jin from "Colleague", Sunny Chan and Ron Ng from "War" and Kevin Cheng, Gigi and Ben Wong from "Life". The turnout for "War" was a little disappointing as both female leads Myolie and Leila Tong were not able to attend. As yesterday was also International Women's Day, some of the male artistes presented the ladies with flowers. Kevin and Gigi were particularly active and Kevin even complied with the reporters requests as he kissed Gigi three times on the forehead.

Gigi was wearing some new designs from designer label Celine, with a white blouse over a bright red skirt. Gigi also wore a Cartier watch, showing off her gear. She indicated that her outfit was sponsored and she says that each time she takes part in an event, she will receive clothing sponsorships and this saves her a lot of money. She has sponsors for her hair and her household items, so she is just looking for an lingerie sponsor now. When the reporters suggest that she will increase the value of any lingerie that she wears, she laughs: "Don't be so disgusting!". She says that maybe she does not have sponsors because they don't know her measurements. As for ratings, Gigi is not too nervous because she has done her best and she thinks the producer will be more nervous about this.


With all three shows being promoted together, does Esther feel the pressure? She says that she is well accustomed to this industry, so she is not too concerned. However, her husband Nick Cheung laughs that she spoke in her sleep earlier saying: "Is that okay?". She smiles that she does not usually speak in her sleep and the last time was just after she had her daughter, when she was laughing out loud, so maybe she is not showing her nerves, but on the inside she is still quite worried. She says she is most worried about the reaction from the audience to her performance. She also wants to know if her appearance has changed after having her baby.

Asked if she has been dressing up intentionally, Esther says she has not and she is just wearing the costume from the company and she has done her hair herself. Only her trousers are her own because she just wants to be comfortable. When the reporters mentioned that many of the ladies show their own accessories off for promotions, Esther says she does not have any items of her own. Asked if she has now changed her mindset into a new transition, she says: "Don't put it like that, maybe I am more casual or maybe I am more housewifey, but after having my daughter I have not really dressed up much."

Kevin has been linked with Niki Chow as being the top TV couple, so is he worried that the audience will find it hard to accept him with Gigi in his new series, Kevin says that for an onscreen couple to be popular, then they cannot be paired up forever. As an artiste, then you have to try many different combinations, otherwise the audience will get bored. After appearing with Niki in "Under the Canopy of Love", he has been paired with Nnadia Chan in "Trimming Success" and there were no problems then. This is all down to the taste of the viewers and is beyond his control, so he can only do his best.

Kevin has been rehearsing recently for the forthcoming Pok Oi Charity Show, where he will be doing a song and dance routine with Kate Tsui. Asked if he is afraid of being accused of taking advantage of her, Kevin says that when you dance, there is already a lot to think about and he will not take any notice of where his hands land. If he makes a mistake, then there will not be a problem. He sasy that after this dance routine, it has roused his interest in the stage again.

With Ron representing "War and Destiny" yesterday, does he feel they are losing out without their two female leads? He smiles: "There is nothing we can do, we will lose out a little." With this series having been filmed over a year ago, the series was not aired because of concerns over the sensitivity of the historical background, but when the producer found out that it is the 70th Anniversary of the Rape of Nanjing this year, then he felt it is the right time to air the show. Ron says that he also has a series "Guts of Man" that is yet to air, so he hopes it will be aired soon.

Asked if he has been to support Charmaine Sheh by watching her new movie "Lady Iron Chef", Ron smiles: "Well that will depend if she gives me any tickets! (Buy them yourself!) I don't mind, I will buy it myself then." As for the attendance at the premiere earlier by Virginia Lok and some of his TVB colleagues, he says that he did hear about it and was invited to go along if he was free, but unfortunately he was working that night. As for Charmaine's comments that if he appeared the focus would be moved towards their rumours, Ron says that every artiste wants the focus to be on their work and of course they don't want people to just talk about their gossip.

i'm 1 big fan of esther too! Ever since watching Armed Reaction which was ages ago, i completely fell in love with her charm. And she's really good in any role - whether its comedy, action, romance, drama. but i like her best in comedy i guess.. especially when she's with bobby. Too bad they can't film a show together! Maybe after Best secrets revealed or whatever its called.

Esther Kwan is Contented with Daughter and Does not Yearn Awards

Esther Kwan has returned to TVB recently, filming for the new sitcom "Best Selling Secrets" (previously referred to as 'Hot Sweet and Sour') and although it has been a while since she has filmed in Hong Kong, she is still pulling in the viewers and is on a par with any of the current leading ladies. However, Esther has no intentions of fighting for awards with the others because she has her daughter and this is all she needs.

Since leaving TVB, Esther has been making some real money on the mainland and after making enough, she set her sights on becoming a mother. She says frankly that she has not really been paying much attention to TVB's news, but she does know that there are plenty of newcomers, so when she returned to TVB, she often mistakes people's names.

As for the rumours and gossip about the ladies who fight and negotiate awards, for Esther who was the first 'Best Actress' anniversary award winner, she has her own point of view: "For the awards to go to managed artistes is inevitable because if you want to keep people, then you have to make them happy. When money is no longer attractive enough, then you have to show something else as a negotiating tool. It's all about agreement."

Asked if she is interested in fighting with the other leading ladies for awards after her return, Esther immediately laughs: "I am over all that now! My husband and my daughter are my awards! What I seek now is a role, but I know that a lot of things are beyond my control." After her return, Esther is showing a happier side of her than before and she indicates that all her happiness has been gained from her daughter. Having a child is truly all that she needs!

PLOT SYNOPSIS:

Esther Kwan's character returned to Hong Kong after residing abroad for over 10 years. Due to her overqualified resume, she has trouble finding a job in Hong Kong. Profession: Photographer at an advertising firm

Has a sense of justice and will speak out in defense of his beliefs. Believes that actions speak louder than words. Is well-liked by many people around him, attracting the admiration of numerous girls.

Additional Info: Luk Jit's father died early and was raised by his grandmother, Ng Hang. He shares a close relationship with his grandmother. Has a dim memory of his mother. Through his grandmother, Luk Jit has an irresponsible impression of his mother since she left him shortly after giving birth to pursue her own dreams. Thus Jit does not have a favorable impression about his mother.

Jit introduces Ka Nam to work at the same advertising company and developes a close relatioship with her, confiding his feelings about his mother to her. Later it is revealed that Jit is actually Ka Nam's son!

Akina Kong Yan Yin's Character- Diana

Age: 30+ years old

Profession: President of the advertising company

Personality: Ambitious and meticulous, Diana has a long-term vision. She is calculative and grasps each opportunity. She is assiduous, diligent, and will stop at nothing to achieve her goals. She understands the strengths of her subordinates well and assigns their duties properly. Diana is driven by her goals and assumes a survivor point of view in life.

Additional Info: For Diana, romantic relationships pose as an opportunity for her. She is lovers with the advertising firm's owner, Yin Wai Sun, (played by Wong Chi Hung). However this love is not long-lasting, as he has fallen for another woman...

After marriage, Ming Leung and Hon Yat rarely have time together due to their conflicting work schedules. Despite this, she continues to support her husband due to her amicable and understanding personality. She is his motivating force in life and often takes care of her husband's every need.

TVB's new sitcom "Colleague Relationships" [translated title, official title to be confirmed] held a promotion yesterday at Causeway Bay's World Trade Centre yesterday, attended by Esther Kwan, Alvina Kong, Elaine Jin, Angela Tong, Stephen Au and Shek Sau in a very lively event. The cast had to act out the actions for 'handshake', 'hug' and 'massage' with each other to illustrate the kind of relationships that can happen in the office. However, when Stephen picked Alvina up, her trousers started slipping downwards and she had to grab them to avoid an embarrassing situation.

Alvina indicated that before the event, she had tightened her trousers up, but she had not planned on being picked up. When she felt that there was a draught on her waist, she knew that she was revealing her underwear. If she is working, she will always prepare her three 'treasures', that is shorts, a vest and pads, this is so that she does not have to get into the bus every time she needs to change. She smiles that as this was just a promotional event, she had not put her shorts on underneath and was not prepared this time.

As Esther has had to wear heels to film this series, this has resulted in an injury to her foot that has developed into an infection of the bone membrane. She says that after three days of office scenes, she can only describe it as a hardship, because her legs are too tired. She had wanted to replace her heels with a pair of platform soles, but she found it did not look right.

Esther says that in the past, she has rarely had to film wearing heels, but in this modern series, she has had to wear three inch heels for filming and the shoots last a full day at a time. This has resulted in an infection causing swelling in both of her feet and her doctor has advised her not to stand too much and to stop wearing high heels. Asked why she did not bring a seat on set, she says that she normally does when they are on location, but in the studio, she already has a lot of things to take in. She is now taking a pair of slippers in to change into. The doctor also suggested that she should soak her feet for five minutes in cold water and then five minutes in hot water and repeat it so she feels better when she gets home. Asked why she does not ask her husband Nick Cheung to give her a foot massage, she says that the doctor says not to massage the injury because it will become even more swollen. She adds that her working time is quite regular now, but she has less time with her daughter and since she started working again, she has not taken her daughter out at all.

Angela has a short haircut for the series as she will be playing a police officer. She reveals that she is still not used to the short hair. What does her boyfriend think of her haircut? Angela says that she has split up with her boyfriend now. Asked if she feels it is a shame after so many years together, she says that she had a good relationship with him and can still be friends. The split took place before the Chinese New Year and it was just an ordinary thing, so she does not want to make a big thing about it. So she is preparing to date again? Angela says she will leave it to fate.

HOw are you doing dear? I took a trip to Vietnam & HK last summer, and tried to book ticket to go Singapore but last minute so there were no more tics.... I was so sad !!!!!!!! I told Fione about it too and she was disappointed as well.... Hopefully next year, I'll try to go... for sure

Shek Sau laughs that he is quite lucky and he hopes that this luck will rub off onto the series and bring up the ratings. When the reporters joked that Catherine wants him to pay for an eight-table banquet, he syas: "Catherine will arrange it. (You will pay?) I don't mind, there will be a lot of meals with this series - as long as everyone is happy."

Esther filmed a promotional clip for the show with a baby and afterwards she was asked whether that baby was her own. She smiles: "I have to clear this up1 The baby and the home were not not mind. Esther says that there is some pressure on her filming this series because her identity has changed now and in the past I have focussed purely on my career, but now even if I ignore my husband, I can't ignore my daughter. Esther Kwan and Alvina Kong were filming on the first day of their new sitcom "Hot Sweet and Sour" yesterday and Esther reveals that she was so nervous on the night before that she could not sleep. "I thought that as I would not see my daughter at work, I woke her up to play with her and then feed her. I played with her for half an hour before I left the house for work." Last night, Esther Kwan and Nick Cheung Ka Fai were spotted in Central District with their 1 year-old
daughter, Brittany. The family went to a Mongolian/ Tibetan restaurant for dinner and then spent the remainder of the evening at a bar. Despite the late night activities, Brittany was still alert and her eyes sharp at the end of the evening.

Brittany just turned 1 year old in January. Despite her tender age, she has met many people, such as "Uncles" Anthony Wong Chau Sung and Francis Ng Chun Yu. Last month, Esther and Nick also took Brittany to watch the musical version of "Cinderella."

Little Brittany was wearing a pink coat, red skirt, and black leggings. Her outfit was very trendy and cute. When photographers took photos, Brittany looked cooperatively straight at the camera. Nick explained, "This Mongolian/ Tibetian restaurant is owned by a friend, so we dropped by for dinner."

Nick also revealed that since Esther is working again, Brittany is currently being taken care of by their friend.

The family later headed over to O Sip Hah bar and stayed for half an hour. Since Esther and Nick sat near the entrance of the bar, they quickly attracted the gathering of several reporters around them. Nick left the bar first to swing the car around to pick up Esther and Brittany.

Esther and Nick love children; are they planning to have another child? Esther plans to have another child, but she will wait until Brittany is a little older first.

The producer of the series is Catherine Tsang and appeared at the press conference yesterday. As a result, all the cast members arrived punctually and memorized their parts for the script in advance.

Esther said, "Since becoming pregnant with my daugher, Brittany, it has been 2 years since I have acted. I had some uncertainty going back to work again. My daughter is very cute and I didn't want to have someone else take care of her."

"At the same time, I really wanted to return to work. Ms. Tsang gave me a 'good card' by offering me a role in a sitcom, as the filming hours will be reasonable and I don't have to leave Hong Kong. That's why I accepted the role."

Does Esther's husband, Nick Cheung Ka Fai support Esther returning back to work? "Yes Nick supports me!" (Did Esther's salary increase with her return to TVB?) "The fees are a little more than in the past. However the series is slated to film for 6 months, so the total sum is good."

Esther laughed and said she was a little unaccustomed returning to TVB studio after 6 years of absence. But running into her former colleagues at TVB, the feeling is wonderful. Reporters commented that Esther's figure looks very fit. "I weigh 105 lbs now, so it's ok!"

In "Hot, Sweet, & Sour," Alvina Kong will act as the owner of an advertising company. Alvina bought a big bag of her personal apparel/ accessories for the costume fitting yesterday. Alvina is grateful for her husband's support of her returning to the entertainment industry and allowing her "to pursue her beloved career at this old age."

Alvina's husband also understands that she will need to film in the evening hours, thus she will be unable to attend some evening events with him in the future.












Essie looks absolutely beautiful as before !! It's so great to see her smile again!

ESTHER'S RETURNING TO TVB!! TVB has been so LOUSY without all the veteran actors/actresses like Esther. Can't wait to watch the series!

And yes i agree esther looks great for someone who just gave birth!

Good News: Esther Returns to TVB

Esther Kwan Returns to TVB to Rescue Sitcom Ratings

After playing the role of 'Ngo Jer' in the "Armed Reaction" series, it has been six years now since Esther Kwan left TVB. Recently, under the persuasion of TVB executive Catherine Tsang, Esther has agreed to return to TVB once again after her maternity break and will join 'Ratings Lucky star' Angela Tong in a new sitcom that will follow "Welcome to the House" in a bid to rescue the dwindling ratings in TVB's evening sitcom slot.

Once one of TVB's lucky stars, Esther left TVB in 2000 after filming "Armed Reaction II", which gained ratings points of 37 and "The Legendary Four Aces". She headed into the mainland to further her career there. Since her departure, the producer of "Armed Reaction" had invited her on several occasions to reprise her role in the series, which continued for another two installments, but she declined the offer at the time. Recently, there have been reports that Ms Tsang has been in negotiations with Esther again and successfully persuaded her to return to TVB for a year to film a sitcom. Reports suggest that because the ratings for "Welcome to the House" have fallen, TVB is looking for emergency measures, so they have given their sincerity to inviting Esther to return and anchor their new production. This show will take over from "Welcome" when its run ends in March.

In the year since the birth of her daughter, Esther has been putting all her attentions into being a mother. To take her time away from her family, Esther has been won over by the respect given to her by Ms Tsang and also the attractive cast planned for the new series, including veteran actress Elaine Jin and recent up and coming starlet Angela Tong. The show will centre around female life and TVB is pinning its hopes on this to give the ratings a much needed boost.

When Angela was asked about this news and the return of Esther to TVB, she said: "I have heard about this, but I have not received an official notification yet. If it is true, then I will be very happy. A long time ago, I worked with Esther in 'A Loving Spirit' and 'The Taming of the Princess' and I have not seen her for a long time. I'd like to see what her daughter looks like too!" Esther was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.

In recent years, many artists have left TVB to venture in other career opportunities. This has resulted in a high turnover of leading actors and actresses. In a recent internet poll, fans selected the artists whom they would like to see return to TVB the most. Poll results indicate that they want Gallen Lo Ka Leung and Flora Chan Wai San, winners of the Best Actor and Best Actress Award in 2002, to return to TVB the most.



TVB has recently been re-broadcasting many of its past classic series in its midnight line-ups, such as "Golden Faith," which attracted 580,000 people in viewership to tune in for the ending episode. Due to the recent re-broadcast of "Golden Faith," Gallen's popularity has once again surged in Hong Kong. He easily won with 325 votes as the actor fans desired to return to TVB the most.

Chilam Cheung was in second place with 214 votes and Louis Koo Tin Lok with 198 votes in third place. Other actors who also made the list include Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Patrick Tam Yiu Man, Sean Lau Ching Wan, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Andy Lau Tak Wah etc. made it on the list.


As for actresses which fan miss the most at TVB, Flora Chan won the poll with 354 votes. Many fans feel that Flora's image is healthy and she is very convincing in professional roles such as lawyers etc. Many fans also voted for the retun of Esther Kwan Wing Ho (who received 242 votes). Maggie Cheung Ho Ying was in third place and Anita Yuen Wing Yee had a lot of supporters as well.
