Anyone know which calling card has the cheapest rates for calling papua new guinea? I've been using budget card for a while but it seems the rate has gone up. It used to be approximately 30 minutes for $10, now it's gone down to 6 minutes.

Any ideas wantoks?

I use GoTalk, which (i think) charges 26c a minute. Thats about 38 minutes for $10. If there's anything cheaper, I'd be interested too.

Calling cards

April 12 2004, 8:40 PM

All calling card rates have gone up due to infaltion. The cheapest at the moment for calling PNG, would be Optus or Telstra phone away. I get around 13 mins with a card of $10. Go Talk costs around $1.19 per min. The higest amount I saw was $1.49 per min. Land line rates with telstra are also very costly. Higher rates apply to mobiles.

So if your going to be wise, the better option would be the Phone Away card, or optus international calling card.

I cant wait till they have international sms to PNG! (save soooo much!)

so short and sweet is the best chatting option!

the reason why calls are a problem

April 26 2004, 12:32 PM

cut and paste from png gossip news

Telikom PNG

The company with a monopoly over telecommunications in PNG has limited phone calls to PNG from overseas causing frustration for many people attempting to get through to PNG. Telikom PNG only has agreements with three overseas companies for calls to PNG and all calls must now be connected through those carriers. They are Singtel in New Zealand, Optus in Australia and a consortium from Hong Kong and Telstra (Australia). The problem has stemmed from the fact that people were bypassing the "expensive" Telikom option and using cheaper operators using voice over the Internet technology. It has been alleged that Telikom has blocked the cheaper options but Telikom claim they only have agreements with those companies and those companies must be used.

Cheapest calls of all

Southern phone company (http://www.southernphone.com.au) offer 10 minutes for $2.00 or$5.50 for 30 minutes to PNG. It is not a calling card and you can be connected to them from anywhere round Australia.
We've found them great and cheap.
Hope this Helps

no phone cards

Phone cards are not availabe at the moment, however they may be introduced soon.

Service only available via the phone line, and is available in all capital cities.

Rang just now to find out if they had phone cards, it is a bummer that they haven't.

Mate
if you have Telstra mobile phone there's actually a trick but will take up 34 minutes of your time, it's actually a dialling trick and you can talk for the whole day without credit.
I'll keep yu posted.
Saki.
