lived in Louisiana and East Texas long before Luis deMoscoso's 1541-42 expedition through East Texas and these native people made beautiful clay pottery that was also very functional. They were NOT, as Spanish, English and French settlers believed, either savages or stupid at all; they made good use of 'slash and burn' farming techniques, trot lines and crop rotation long before Anglo settlers even thought of it. In addition, my husband watched a Biography episode on Johnny Cash last night. I had no idea he was a Native American, that his parents told him stories about Bigfoot or that he wrote and sang a song about the creature--But he did! Just thought I'd "teach" another history lesson; the part about Johnny Cash was your social studies enrichment lesson for today. Class dismissed! LOL
