Possibly those in the PNW have evolved father along the evolutionary tree then those here in the South which are regularly seen both bi-pedal and quad, I know many out in the West think the same of research(s) here in the South regarding OUR evolutionary tree. I've lived in both areas and these country boys may be slow, and I've been known to move on all fours through the thickets but that's where the monsters are...... I guess the point I'm trying to make is some just need to get off the computer and out into the field for want is called "Field Research". As Monster Hunter pointed out those here in the South transition regularly between bi-pedal and moving on all fours and do this on the move without having to stop, so IMO a mid-tarsal break, hinge or what ever one wants to label it is probably needed within the foot or this movement would not be possible, calf muscles just don't stretch that far. If I am wrong please explain how they accomplish this transition.
