From the bigfoot walking over all types of terrain; what appears to be a mid-tasal break is actually "heavy" callousing of the bottom of the foot. I'd imagine that the pad may be a 3 to 4 inches thick on the bottom of the foot in some instances. Almost like the sole on the bottom of a work boot.
Meldrum is "full of poo" with the mid-tarsal break in my opinion. Natural callousing would create exactly what Meldrum believes is a mid-tarsal break. We need not forget that these homins wear no shoes and a toughening and heavy callousing is to be expected with these creatures. In otherwords, the bottoms of their feet MUST form a "natural" shoe over time. It can't be helped!
