maybe wood on metal in some cases...but...I haven't heard any wood knocking up as close as you described...I'm thinking..."just why in the hexx would a self respecting Monster want to possibly break a finger, hand, wrist or arm smacking a tree?"...personally I've haven't seen any Monster with a stick, limb or tree in its hands...for all I know...they're butting the trees with their heads...
What I have heard sounds like wood on wood and on occasion wood hitting some kind of metallic object...I do know something got two of my hickory sticks we used to wood knock with...either the Monsters got tired of us hitting on the cross ties used for fencing or someone got them for fire wood...
