Do you think their mimicing can be of inanimate objects also?

I once heard a noise down at the river (Mud River in Milton WV, and you can edit this part out if you want) while night fishing for some channel cats that sounded very similiar to train wheels screeching on the metal rails, but ended in a very low guttural growl.
The young man fishing with me asked what the #&!! was that, and I simply responded that it was the train. He said something to the effect of how trains don't growl, and the train wasn't even moving, which I already knew. He wanted to leave, I wanted to stay, so he wasted no time building a fire.
I have heard one other "vocalization" that sounded like a screech-owl screeching at first and ended in a growl, but it did not sound the same as what I heard down at the river. The sound at the river sounded like a train on the tracks with the low rumbling growl at the end, a very "metallic" sounding screech. It was about 300 yards or so from the RR tracks.
What do you think??
