Being one of Ulysse Nardin's Basel 2005 highlights, the limited "Diamond Heart" Freak now features a set of two escapement wheels made, or better said: grown from synthetic diamond. The main advantage of this material, compared with the silicone wheels of the "Freak I", is that it shows itself completely unimpressed by magnetism and temperature changes. Its biggest disadvantage, however, is its complicated production process, which banned it from series production - until now. Due to some improvements in the production, at least very small series of wheels can now be offered in a limited edition of the "Freak 28,800". Unfortunately, though, the implementation of the marvelous diamond balance spring in even a tiny series is still science fiction. However, the industry is working hard, so maybe we will see the diamond spring sooner than anticipated.

Here are now some pics of the "Diamond Heart" shown in Basel:

The diamonds on bezel and lugs - otherwise typical attribute of jewellery watches - are an appropriate design element for the "Diamond Heart"

Even the "hour hand's" arrowhead is ornamented with diamonds

Interesting the diamond shaped pattern on the movement bridges. Also note the cover stone of the balance pinion is also a diamond.

This picture clearly shows the diamond escapement wheels with the new shape of the teeth.

Finally, two pics of the 'standard' "Freak 28,800":

Best regards,
