Ulysse Nardin enamel

This category is dedicated to the art of enamelling, as found on the magnificent dials of Ulysse Nardin watches. UN is using enamel in two ways:

Either plain enamel paint in several layers, atop a delicate guilloche metal base. This draws its effect from the light reflections of the guilloche pattern and the the transparence of the enamel colour;

or the famous cloisonné enamel, where enamel paint is filled into small cells made of thin gold wire. Here the enamel is used to form a pictorial scene.

If you post a picture into one of the subcategories, please do so only if the picture is saved on a permanent server space. Otherwise, it will disappear here after some time, leaving only a broken link. Alternatively, I suggest that you send the pics to me, and I will archive them appropriately.

Custom Made

August 26 2003, 6:11 AM

Many "San Marco" watches feature dials that have been made on specific order, according to a template supplied by the customer. These are wonderful one-of-a-kind pieces, and I would be very happy, if their owners share them with us here.

Exotic wildlife cloisonné in San Marco Gigante case

January 16 2004, 4:09 PM

The piece was made on special order for one of Dave Piccione's customers. This gentleman delivered a design he had ordered from an artist, showing animals that are specifically important for his daughter and him.

The artist's original design ...

... and what the UN enamellers believed could be made of it. The comments are from the customer.

The 40mm case of the "San Marco Gigante" in pink gold was chosen for the dial

UN also added a display back.

And here is the stunning result
