Hey All,
Does anyone have or know if there is a review of the AMT Mount n Goat Jeep Commando kit? When I was a kid I had kit of what I thought was this kit and it came with the African Safari Catch vehicle stuff... Seat on the fender, seat on a raised frame in the rear, zebra paint job... I've been trying to research this kit for years and can't find anything and when I saw this kit, I thought maybe it was a re-release. Thanks in advance for any help.
You might have just made my day. As a kid in the early 70s I had a Safari Jeep and could never figure out what it was. I always thought it was an MPC kit... white plastic and it had IIRC some rifles and things like in the MPC Gangbusters cars. I want one of those big time!
These all have the front clip from the CJ Jeeps taken from the Daisy Duke kit. These guys are in the local club here in town.
I think the basic Mount n Goat kit is a '72 Commando with the full front grill and wide hood. I'm thinking we both had the same kit. I would love to find another and be able to do it up right with an airbrushed zebra camo. I've always wanted to do up the vehicles used in the John Wayne movie "Hatari" and this kit was just like in the movie. I'll probably end up buying it and taking my chances.
It has to be an early 70s jeep. I got the model in the 1975 time frame. I always thought it was MPC because of the white plastic, and the accessories. I would have been around 8-9 years old, so my memory is shakey. The kit was in white with some sort of black zebra stripes.
I notice the AMT Goat was (I assume) and MPC kit. You can do a Yahoo image search and find the MPC box. I know MPC did the Hogans Heros Jeep, and a faux military Jeep with big wheels and a recoilless rifle. Then there is the AMT Daisy Duke Jeep. I assume that kit (like the Charger) were existing kits put in Dukes boxes.
I have the kit, will pop it open and see this afternoon. Over the years a lot of options were removed from the AMT and MPC molds. Some have been added back, but many molds were just outright altered.
But really want the 70 Jeepster for old times sake. As far as I can remember its the first model kit I had as a kid. I would have been about 5, which is why I could never build the thing. I remember playing with the little guns though.
