Hello everyone!
I will be receiving Andrea Miniatures' 54 mm white metal rendition of Frederick the Great as a gift from my wife. It will look great even unpainted, but of course I want to give it some colour.
Now, this is my first white metal figure. I have painted quite a few 1/35 plastic military figures ( Tamiya, Trumpeter, etc...), mostly of WW2 vintage. For them I have had success with enamels of different makes ( Humbrol, Model Master, etc...), as well as Pollyscale paints, and even experimenting with some oils to bring out facial expressions. Would the same enamel paints be suitable to use on a white metal figure? If so, is there a need for a primer first?
I realize that there are acrylic paints sold for metal figures ( Andrea, Vallejo, etc...), but I am on a limited budget, and it seems a shame to invest in 8 to 10 of these new paints, when I have a shelf full of essentially the same colours in enamels.
Also, are there any websites that could offer me some easy "how to" hints, so that Frederick will turn out looking like the great king he was? Thanks a lot in advance for any info and suggestions you can give me!
