But standing at the stone fence at Gettysburg and looking at the open field Pickett charged across, I doubt that his troops cared whether the standard bearers got switched around during the charge. In fact I doubt they made it at all and the colors were picked up by the rank and file, who were probably not as well versed in protocol.
And as far as your "real military" comment, I'll be happy to compare DD214s anytime, as would my son who is a Veteran Combat Navy Corpsman attached to 3/8 Marine.
