Have just acquired a Russian officer's jacket. Fine material in Olive brown. 5 shiney gold buttons down front with hammer & sickle superimposed on a star. L shaped laurel leaf pattern of pale gold colored metal on lapels. Shoulder boards are gold braid, with 4 red lines running from top to bottom There is a gold star with black edging embroidered into the center of the board, slightly closer to the bottom edge. Looks impressive, is it anything worthwhile? Like to know rank and branch of service, also any monetary value. Never really see Russkie stuff around. brgds, Hal Marshman Sr.

Hi Hal,
I only have a couple of Osprey books about Russian uniforms but I can have a look. Is it WW2 or Post WW2/ Soviet era?

Regards

Sounds like the rank is Major (single star between two coloured stripes)

Not sure about the lapel/collar insignia though... Sounds like there should be "ARM OF SERVICE" patches somewhere...
