Knight series. I always labored under the impression that Aurora issued only five Knight kits, which were the Red, Blue, Gold (on horseback), Silver and Black Knights. There was even to be a Green Knight (prototype) that was to be issued but never was. Now surfing the web, I have been coming across pictures and references to the fact that there were at least two other 1/8th Knight kits produced by Aurora, but for the life of me I can't ever recall seeing these things in the flesh. Both seem to be Crusader Knights of the 1100s. Both have shields, spears and conical helmets. One guys shield has a rampant lion on it, the other looks like a round shield. Am I missing something, or were these kits issued by another model company and people just lump them in with Aurora? Were these perhaps part of some sort of "Camelot" thing? Anyone have the definitive Aurora book they could shed some light on? Thanks for any help. Scott.
Aurora made a Crusader figure that matches what you describe. I also came across a "Sir Kay" Shining Knight that was molded in what appeared to be chrome plated plastic.
The basic knights (Red, Black, Silver, Blue, and the Gold knight on horseback) were sold in various boxes. Some were sold in Camelot packaging (first?) and later in the common "Silver Knight of Augsberg" type packing. In the late 60s they were put into big square boxes like the Aurora "glow" Monsters. I think some of those were chromed.
Aurora also released (not part of their knight series) IIRC a standing Crusader type knight and a Viking. They also did a gladiator or two...
Airfix also released a 1/12 figure series over the years that included Joan of Arc in armor, as well as Edward the Black Prince, and Richard the Lionheart, both in armor.
But they are all in real rough shape except for the Blue Knight, which a generous gent has just sold me. Been slowly piecing them back together. Now I know how Archeologists feel when putting ancient pottery shards back together again. I would like to get the Crusader Knight and maybe the Viking, but alas one must search evil bay and pay the high prices for them. If anyone here has any one of these built up or kit lying around that they would like to get rid of, let me know. Thanks, Scott
