This is one of those items that I'm so used to seeing everyday that it didn't really occur to me that other folks might find it interesting. These are often called ashtray stands although I don't know if that's the correct term. I'm guessing something like this probably dates to the late 1930's but I'm not betting the farm on it.
I remember my parents having this in the living room when I was a kid in the 1960's. After it was abandoned in the basement, I recovered it and put it in my living room.
It's a little worse for wear. The chrome on the top of the table portion is in rough shape. The chrome on the airplane is pitting. I remember it had it's propellers 45 years ago and they are gone now. However, it's basically solid and there isn't anything that can't be restored.
I haven't actually tried to turn the light on in many years. The lighting should be pretty simple...it's just a cord going up the center post to a rotary switch and a light bulb. But that cord is probably 70 years old and the stand is all metal so I'm not tempted to "plug it in and see what happens"
