Here in NZ the Past EIGHT days have been kind of a small miracle. The weather was good (for this time of year) but that's not the reason. There have been 4 drownings, but that's not unusual, but a bit heavy, normally about 1 to 2 a week over swimming season (just ending... But that's not it.

It's the Road toll. On an average year we have about 350 or more deaths on the road per year. (works out to just over 5 a week. And easter is one of the 3 worst weekends of the year...usually. Laast year 13 people died on the roads. the worst easter ever was back in the 1990's when 24 people died on the roads at Easter.

So what's unusual? Since Monday the second of April (after 00:01 AM) there have been NO FATALITIES on the roads in New Zealand up to and including today (Tuesday at 0600 - marking the end of the Easter Holiday weekend.) None. Zip, Zero, Nada.

That's right the Road toll for 8 consecutive days has remained at ZERO fatalities. The Lowest EVER since records began, over 60 years ago.

Yes, there have been accidents and some severe injuries, but no one has died as a result. Kind of a miracle isn't it?

{Edit} The previous lowest Easter road toll was 3 in 2009, and the population of NZ is currently just over 4 million. Just so you know.
