This kind of thing simply passes understanding...

Local news tonight. A 20 month old left in a vehicle parked in the Sun for 9 hours. The parents "forgot him". He's dead, of course. It was 88 here today and that means it probably hit 110 or better in that car.
And to top it all off, the local police mouth piece says it looks like an "accident" and no charges will be filed!
Some people just shouldn't be allowed to breed!

HOW!?

July 2 2009, 12:16 AM

How can anyone forget their child!? Even if the child is not theirs, if that were the case?

One could blame it on the oversaturation of information that has become a modern plague. STILL, child trumps cell phone ANY day!

No excuse!

Heard the same news report....

July 2 2009, 7:51 AM

the parents " changed their daily routine" the reason the baby was forgotten. Also in MD to charged with murder there has to be intent and manslaughter who have to know that death can/could result from your actions...forgetting is neither. Mike

pit bulls are two things that should not be considered "pets"... I know there are some pit bull people out there amoung us but I'm sorry, I just don't trust them. My next door neighbor has a couple and his bother in the next house down from him has 4. They have small kids.. I think it's just a matter of time before something happens with them.

Cheers,
Dave

Pit Bulls..

4 legged hand grenades waiting to go off. My neighbor across the street has two of the damn things.
Another status thing I guess. I saw a stray strolling down the middle of the street one day. I went in and got my 12 gauge and kept an eye on him till he wandered off. Call the Pound? Nah tried that he was gone way before they ever showed.

would have got the job done.......

Agree, I trust those dogs as far as I can throw them.

A good friend will be there to bail you out of jail in the morning. A great friend will be sitting next to you, asking "how did we get caught?"

The neighbor's..

July 3 2009, 9:09 AM

pit (one of'em) was running loose (no fence) this morning when I left for work. Hope (well, not really) that he knows how to avoid traffic on the road. I'm not going to say anything about it because I think the problem may take care of itself. Actually they've not been a problem to me... Yet.. The two neighbors that have them are brothers in their mid 20s. They're good kids, don't get me wrong. Both of them work at the Department of Corrections so that may have something to do with it. I figure they'll grow out of it or their Dad (I know him too) may put a stop to it at some point.

Your right about the hand grenade part. As far as "status" symbol, you have a point their too. I just can figure out what "status" level it is.

Cheers,
Dave

Convient excuse used murder the unwanted children

July 2 2009, 5:29 PM

Happens far far to often and has become the Twinky Defense of this gneration.
I Forgot my child but I got my case of beer and my cigs ou.Thank God they're safe.
People dont forget there babies in cars. It is a lie and I would prosecute with extreme prejudice anyone that came before me with such a rediculous excuse.

This happens at least half a dozen times every Summer in Texas. They are all liars. The worst case was a few years ago here in Dallas where a rather well to do family left the special needs child in the SUV overnight . Of course the child was dead for hours by the time the found it.
Mind you this was a child that couldnt feed itself or walk but no one noticed it wasnt in the house!!!!! It didnt get fed dinner? It wasnt put to bed ? Judge let them off. Judge should go to prison for life with murdering parents.

There is no way in the world you can leave a child in a car for hours and not know you did it. They usually quite demanding need naps, meals, diaper changes, and crave constant attention which they generally recieve by making some type of sounds. They always conviently find them not 15 mins after they are missed but hours later when the parents are sure the little liability is dead.

I say do the same thing to the parents they did to the child.

I think here in Houston

July 2 2009, 10:14 PM

The penalty is pretty strict and they do press murder due to neglect against the parents.

Well, yes and no

July 3 2009, 11:28 PM

we had a case here where a vet took his kid to work with him, unknowingly, and left the baby in the car seat. The daycare center should have called, but did not. Perfect storm.

I gotta ask

July 3 2009, 12:38 PM

Did they leave him to go gambling for 8 plus hours?

I work at a casino and started in security. Some of the things I witnessed first hand what people do to get there 'gamble on' is stunning!

I can believe it can happen in the short term

July 3 2009, 11:22 PM

I knew a guy once, one of the most decent human beings in the world, who sat his baby daughter on the roof of his car in her car seat one day to unlock the door, in an absent-minded moment, he got something on his mind and started backing out his driveway with her still on his car roof.

Only a screaming wife running down the driveway made him instantly realize what he had done. He stopped the car before she fell off.

How somebody coudl forget a child all day long is a mystery to me, but I suppose it could happen....rarely.

If you could look into the human soul and see if it was intentional, and if it was, then the parents should be shot on the spot. I can't think of a more awful way for a child to die. But if it truly IS an awful accident, then I can't imagine what those people must be going through, and, I agree with the police, the prosecution should not happen.

Same thing happened here in 2001

July 3 2009, 11:25 PM

vet forgot his infant was in the car seat. Went to the animal hospital and helped manicure dogs all day while his little son expired in the hot sun.

I hope God will forgive us for our stupidity.
