Well guys, I think I've finally hit on a good thing. Even though I'm just contract work, the two people I'm working with tell me that in the end, the job will be a full time position with the company. The facilities are awesome but it's still under construction in some parts.
My immediate supervisor, Ray, is about 6 years older than I am and we basically had the same experiences working our way up from the lowly IBM PC XT up to IBM Minicomputer Systems (System36 and AS/400). From Novell to WindowsNT to Windows Server 20XX.. No unprofessional childish drama to be seen... These people are serious but know when to crack a joke.. Ray's supervisor, the lady that interviewed me a few weeks ago, is really nice too. She didn't hang around too long this morning because I think once we all talked for an hour or so about what was going on and what we were going to be doing, she was confident and quite relieved that I was going to be part of the her team.
BUT.... There's just so much to learn operations-wise... People's names... Ray says not to worry about feeling overwhelmed in the beginning. I'm not really feeling an overwhelming sensation so to speak.. It's more or less the starting new job and having to learn everything (how the company wants it done) all over again.. It isn't like I haven't been there and done that before though. Hopefully in a month or so, I'll be able to handle things well enough to ease the workload on Ray and his supervisor that must travel a minimum of 4 hours to get to the Plant...
I'm still in the process of getting my "identity" at the company. ID Badges and stuff to get me into certain places including the really cool TeleComm/Network Room where all the racks and servers live... It'll all be in my hands in a few months....
After today, I told Ray, he was going to have to beat me out of the place with a stick if he was going to get rid of me... LOL So, barring the advent and rapid deployment of Cold Fusion Reactors, the Virginia City Hybrid Electric Power Plant is where I'm going to be for a long while... Oh, and also barring that I win the lottery at some point..

Cheers,
Dave
