Scene 1: Repeat from previous show- Gabe, and Genaro are aruging about Sofia in the living room at El Castillo. Doña Ofelia is there. Gabe tells Genaro that Sofia married him because her father made her because she was expecting Gabe’s child. Doña Ofelia gaps Pedro’s name because he has just come into the hall and he hears that. Gabe turns to him and says, yes, Pedro, you are that child. Genaro says don’t believe him Pedro, he’s lying. Gabe says he’s not and that Doña Ofelia will confirm it. Pedro asks her to tell him the truth and she tells him that it’s true. Pedro says he can’t accept it and backs out of the room. Genaro says he doesn’t accept it either and that Pedro is just like him. He says they are trying to drive him crazy but he won’t play their games. He says Pedro has his temperament, his character. Ofelia interrupts him and says quit lying, Pedro is nothing like you, thank God; he couldn’t be because he’s not your blood. Genaro says he doesn’t want to hear any more. Gabe says believe it, I am Pedro’s father. Genaro tells Gabe to leave. Gabe asks Ofelia to forgive him, but he couldn’t leave things like that(?) Gabe and Genaro exchange hateful looks. Gabe leaves and Ofelia tells Genaro that now he understands why she told him so many times that he would regret the way he treated Cris, because Cris is his only real son. There are actually tears in Genaro’s eyes. He leaves and Ofelia sits on the sofa crying.
Scene 2: Genaro goes to his office and throws a temper tantrum, breaking and throwing things, among them Sofia’s picture, which he picks up and curses before he throws it. At the end he collapses on the floor.
Scene 3: Pedro (like a true cowboy) gets his horse and rides off with Ponciano calling after him, but Pedro doesn’t answer.
Scene 4: Diego and Mateo talk about Diego’s decision to become a priest. Mateosays that the time he spends at the seminary will tell him whether or not he should be a priest. Diego asks if Mateo ever questioned his decision to become a priest. Mateo says no, but that God has sent him many trials, the greatest being his own brother, that it has cost him a lot to forgive Genaro for all he has done, but above all it has cost him blood? to keep loving Genaro in spite of the type of man he is. Diego says that he has forgiven his father, like Mateo said he should. Mateo says, good, now learn to love him. (That is going to be easier than loving Genaro.)
Scene 5: Magdalena goes to tell Arturo that Diego is going to the seminary. Arturo tells her that the divorce between him and Sarah is almost final. Mags asks if Sarah believes that the two of them are involved. Art tells her that Sarah is just using that as a pretext for the divorce.
Scene 6: Gabe tells Jules and Lauro that Pedro and Genaro saben la verdad (knows the truth). Lauro asks who told him. Gabe admits he did. Jules said he promised not to. Gabe says he’s sorry but it was inevitable. Lauro asks how they reacted. Gabes says Genaro took it badly. Jules asks about Pedro. Gabe says he simply said that he couldn’t accept it and left. Gabe says that it was logical that Pedro would reject him, that it had to be that way.Gabe goes upstairs to his studio. Jules tells Lauro that this can’t be and that Genaro is going to kill Gabe. Lauro says calm down and Jules asks how she can be calm when she is so frightened. She says that is why she didn’t want Pedro to know. She was worried about Genaro getting revenge on Gabe. Lauro says that he is worried most about Pedro because this was a real blow to him. Jules says she is going to see him. Lauro says she can’t go to El Castillo. Jules says that Gabe told them that Pedro left the house and she knows where to find him.
Scene 7: Nadia is in the bed in the hotel room. She calls for Cristobal. She looks at the check again with a scheming look on her face but she puts it back on the nightstand.
Scene 8: Cris calls Ofelia to tell her that he is all right and that he loves her. She tries to talk him into coming home but he refuses.
Scene 9: Jules finds Pedro by the river. She says she can imagine how he feels. He says does she know; does everybody know buy him. She says she has known for a few days. Pedro asks why she came; to ask thim to accept Gabe with open arms. Jules says no, that she came because she knows this a difficult moment for him. Pedro says that all his life, he has believed that Genaro was his father. He learned to love and respect him and then he came to know that he was a man with many defects, but that doesn’t mean that he is going to run into Gabe’s arms because he is as bad or worse than Genaro. Jules says that they are not alike and that even if he doesn’t know it he (Pedro) is very like Gabriel. Pedro says in case you’ve forgotten something very important, both of us are in love with you. Jules says that this worries her a lot and it worries Gabe, too, but he didn’t know of the relationship. Pedro says of course, he’s worried but he’s going to marry you anyway. Who would have believed that you would end up being my step-mother?
Scene 10: Genaro gets up off the floor in the office. He opens the door to Ofelia who tells him that instead of 3 days, he she wants him off the ranch right now.
Scene 11: Magdalena goes to see Sarah to tell her that there is nothing between her and Art. She tells Sarah that if she loves Art she shouldn’t divorce him. She quotes Mateo but I didn’t get the meaning of the saying.
Scene 12: Cris goes back to the hotel room. He tells Nadia that Ofelia has disinherited him. He says he didn’t want to tell her before but after last night he isn’t worried about her knowing. He tells her that the check is a compensation and the last money he’ll get from Ofelia.
Scene 13: Mendoza arrives in the jail in another town to talk to the ranch hand who tried to sell Marissa’s ring. We just see him swearing that he didn’t steal it.
Scene 14: Nadia is leaving the hotel room with the check. Cris stops her and asks if she is leaving without him. She says yes. He tells her that she will never change, that she’s the same porqueria as always. He says are you leaving because you know that my abuela disinherited me? She says that she couldn’t be interested in a poor devil like him. She calls him an invalid and mentally weak. Cris says that staying with him is going to be her punishment and that she’ll have to kill him to leave. Nadia takes the gun off the nightstand and threatens him. He still approaches her, saying, shoot. He throws down his crutches and grabs for the gun. They struggle for the gun and it goes off. Cris falls to the floor.
Scene 15: Genaro goes to the cemetery and picks up a pickax.
Scene 16: Back in the hotel Nadia picks up her things and leaves.
Scene 17: Genaro destroys Sofia’s marker with the pickax.
Scene 18: Pedro’s room. Ofelia is waiting to talk to Pedro. Pedro comes in. Ofelia- We have to talk. Pedro- There is nothing to talk about. Ofelia- There’s a lot to say. You have to know how things were so you can understand why your mother kept quiet and why I did, too. Pedro- Nothing you say can justify her cheating, or yours either. It’s unforgivable. Ofelia- Do you think it was easy for your mother? Can you imagine the strength it took to keep quiet? How she suffered because she had to give up the love of her life and stay by the side of a man she didn’t love. Pedro- Then she should have had the courage to confront the situation. (That boy is hardhearted sometimes.) The courage to tell the truth. Ofelia- She was so very young when this happened. She didn’t have the strength to do it. Your abuelo made her marry Genaro with the threat to kill Gabriel, but he would have done it. She loved him too much to risk his life. Her only consolation was that you were on the way. At least she had something of his that no one could take away. Pedro- Please, don’t tell me any more. I don’t want to hear any more. The reasons aren’t important. For me there is no justification. I was obligated to love a man who was nothing to me and at the same time I learned to hate the man who gave me life. Do you realize?
Ofelia- I know all this is difficult for you, son, but with a little time. Pedro- Time isn’t going to change anything. But distance might help me forget at least a little of what I’m feeling. Ofelia- What are you saying? Pedro- I’m leaving. I don’t want to keep living in this damned lie. I’m leaving before Julieta marries my ...padre. Ofelia- Por Dios, hijo, you’re carrying things too far. Pedro- I have to get away. I ask you to respect my decision, and please leave me alone. Ofelia- If that’s what you want.
Scene 19: Art and Sarah at the final divorce hearing. Sarah changes her mind and they don’t get a divorce. ( I think the judge was happier than either of them.)
Scene 20: Nadia tries to cash the check but she has trouble because it is so large. The bank teller takes her id and goes off. Nadia waits.
Scene 21: Gabe asks how Pedro was when she saw him. She says he wouldn’t let her talk and that he (Gabe) can understand how confused Pedro is. Gabe says he can imagine. Jules asks Gabe what he feels for Pedro. Gabe says he says he doesn’t know; that he doesn’t feel like his father, he has never lived with him; doesn’t know him. The only thing that is clear is that he(Gabe) wants the best for him(Pedro). Jules- And you believe telling him was best for him? Gabe- I couldn’t leave here with this secret. I couldn’t live in peace with it. You understand. Jules says she understands but she is frightened. Gabe asks, about what. Jules says she is scared of what revenge Genaro is going to take. Imagine the anger he feels, she says. Gabe says that is a risk he has to take.
Scene 22: Genaro goes to confess to Mateo. Genaro- You knew and you didn’t tell me. You let me live a lie. Mateo- What are you talking about? Genaro- You know very well what I’m talking about. Now I understand what Ofelia was going to tell me that night you stopped her from talking. You knew that Pedro wasn’t my son and you kept your mouth shut. Your are a traitor, a damned traitor. Mateo- How do you know. Genaro- That’s not important. (He says some things I didn’t get- idioms I thing- then he says) Before you were Ofelia’s and Gabe’s accomplice, now you are going to be mine. Mateo- Accomplice, in what? Genaro- In what I’m going to do. I’m going to get even with everyone who cheated me. I couldn’t do anything about Sofia, but I’m proud that I killed her with my own hands. Mateo- My God, what are you saying? Genaro- All the others are going to turn out worse that her, and you aren’t going to do anything to stop me.You are going to have to keep my secret like you kept Pedro’s and this my beloved brother is going to be your punishment. Mateo- Genaro, for the love of God, don’t commit another atrocity. Genaro- I don’t have anything to lose, Mateo, absolutely nothing. Mateo- Genaro, wait. But of course, he doesn’t.
Scene 23: Carmina picks up a note Rosendo slid under her door. It tells her where to meet him so they can leave SV before it is too late.
Scene 24: Jules and Rebeca in her room, admiring the wedding dress. Rebeca says she has decided to accept Jules offer to take over the consultorio. Rebeca then leaves to see Ben. She is looking forward to give him the good news that she is staying. Jules remembers Pedro’s comment about her being his step-mother.
Scene 25: Sheriff Mendoza arrives in his office. The gum-chewing deputy asks him how it went. He says much better than he expected. Mendoza asks about Rosendo. The deputy says they haven’t found him. They talk about Genaro and his alibi and are just about to go to the ranch to speak to Ofelia when the phone rings. The sheriff takes the call and tells someone that he’ll be right there.
Scene 26: Nadia is still trying to get the check cashed. The bank manager has told her that she has to open an account to cash it. She reluctantly agrees.
Scene 27: Mateo is trying to reach Ofelia by phone, but can’t. Gabe comes in and he tries to get Gabe to take Jules and leave town immediately. Gabe asks if Jules called him and told him about Pedro and asked him to get Gabe to leave SV. Mateo says he hasn’t talked to her but he knows what happened and that is why he wants them to leave right away. He even says that they should get married somewhere else. Gabe asks him if he has been putting ideas in Jules head and making her nervous. Gabe says Mateo is exaggerating, but Mateo says he isn’t. Then he says he has to see Ofelia and leaves.
Scene 28: Genaro is in the office loading a shotgun. He hides it when Pedro knocks on the door. Genaro doesn’t want to let him in but Pedro insists and Genaro opens the door. Genaro-What do you want? To tell me that you are happy to know that this porqueria in front of you is not related to you. Pedro- Please... Genaro- Now you don’t have to feel guilty because you have lost your respect and admiration for me, on the contrary, you should feel proud to have discovered that your real father is another type of man. Someone, whom you surely feel is better than I am, as did your mother. Pedro- You know, it’s not fair to be mad at me. I’m not guilty of anything. We’ve both been cheated. We both believed things that weren’t true. And in no way do I forgive my mother for what she did. Genaro- She should be burning in an inferno. Pedro- I don’t know, but I want to tell you that nothing has changed for me. I still feel like you are my father because I grew up with you. It’s true that we’ve had some problems, but the affection I have for you will never change. Genaro- I wish I could say the same to you, but I can’t. Knowing that you are the son of Gabriel Almada is stronger than all the years you lived with me. I feel it in my soul....?... I can’t be proud of the son of my worst enemy. Pedro- I understand. I am going to leave the ranch. Genaro- You are free, free to do what you want. I won’t be here much longer either. I’ve lost everything. I’m going to try another way/road/ and it will surely be different than yours. Pedro-
I can imagine. Genaro- Leave me alone. Pedro leaves the study. Genaro picks up the shotgun and the shells for it.
Scene 29: Rebeca and Ben meet on a bench somewhere. They both want to talk but Rebeca lets him go first. He says that she was right, he can’t expect her to stay in SV for him. He goes on to say that the truth is that they don’t know were their relationship was going and it was very egotistical of him to expect her to stay there where she was wasting her time. Rebeca- Yes, it was very egotistical of you. Ben- What did you want to say? Rebeca- The same thing you said. Ben starts to kiss her but doesn’t and he walks off and leaves her sitting on the bench.
Scene 30: Nadia changes her mind about opening a bank account and takes the check and walks out of the manager’s office. Mendoza stops her and tells her that she is under arrest for fraud. Cris comes up and says that’s not all she is guilty of attempted murder, too.

LdP Summary - Tuesday/12/5/00
Scene 1: Repeat from yesterday- Genaro is explaining to Mateo that he has hated him since they were boys. Genaro hated the fact that Mateo was the favoite son and so he decided not to try to be like San Mateo but to demand respect from everyone. Genaro tells Mateo that he (M) is to blame for how he (G) turned out because he was always outshone him, always pushed him aside, etc. Mateo points out that Genaro has done exactly the same thing to his boys, always pushing Cristobal aside in favor of Pedro.
Scene 2: The sheriff and deputy and Gabe show up to arrest Rosendo for Marissa’s murder, but when the dumb sheriff tries to cuff Rosendo, Rosendo pulls his gun and takes the sheriff hostage and leaves in the sheriff’s car. My favorite gum-chewing deputy is good for little else than gum-chewing it seems. After the deputy leaves Gabe goes back into Rosendo’s room and finds the other cufflink.
Scene 3: Gabe meets Carmina outside the pension and asks if she has come to see her accomplice. He shows her the cufflink and tells her that it is the match to the one found at Jules’ house. He says she is behind all this and sent Rosendo to burn the house. He says she couldn’t have lived with Genaro without turning into the same ? He tells the time is coming when she will pay for everything she has done. He tells her about the attempted arrest of Rosendo and that when he falls she will fall with him.
Scene 4: Jules and Rebeca are at the dressmakers,’ fitting Jules’ wedding gown. Jules isn’t very excited and Rebeca tells her that the dress is too simple and that she should look for something more special. Jules says there isn’t time to look for something else and anyway the dress isn’t very important. Rebeca says that she is a rare bride because she isn’t excited about the wedding. Jules says it wouldn’t be right to be so happy after all that has happened. Rebeca says that it would because you don’t get married every day.
Scene 5: Gabe gives Lauro the cufflink and tells him that he it proves that Carmina planned everything to put the blame on Genaro. Gabe- You don’t know how much I wanted to strangle her when I saw her at the pension.- Lauro asks where she is now. Gabe says he has no idea, maybe she went to look for Rosendo. Lauro asks if he questioned her and Gabe says of course he did but she played dumb and said she didn’t have any idea what he was talking about. Gabe says he hasn’t the least doubt that Carmina used Rosendo to burn the house and that surely she did the same to get him to kill Marissa. He says he doesn’t know how she did it but she did. Lauro says that he is sure a woman like Carmina would have no trouble managing an animal like Rosendo.Gabe says he feels so helpless because he doesn’t have the authority to just throw her in jail. Lauro asks why Gabe was there when Rosendo was arrested. Gabe says he wanted to see Rosendo’s face when he was arrested. Lauro says that he hopes God sees that nothing happens to Mendoza. Gabe asks his perenial question-Where is Jules and when Lauro says that she and Rebeca went shopping, Gabe jumps up and yells “Alone?” Lauro tells him that he has to realize that he can’t put Jules in a glass box.
Scene 6: Jules and Rebeca are in town. Rebeca wants to shop for clothes because she can’t go on wearing Rocio’s and says Jules can’t keep wearig Gabriel’s. Jules has on a huge sweater of Gabe’s. Rebeca says thank goodness she had her purse with her when the house burned so she didn’t lose her money or her credit card. Rebeca says she should buy something sexy and wilf for her wedding night, but Jules says she doesn’t feel like shopping; she’s tired and is going back to the house, but that Rebeca should go shopping. Rebeca doesn’t want her to go off alone, but Jules protests (Will she ever learn?) and so Rebeca goes shopping and Jules returns home alone.
Scene 7: Rosendo has driven the sheriff out into the country. The sheriff tells him what he is doing is stupid (big surprise) and the sheriff tells Rosendo that he believes he killed Marissa on someone else’s orders because he didn’t have any motive to murder her. Rosendo makes him kneel on the ground and it looks like he is going to kill him, but he hits him over the head with the gun and leaves. All this time the sheriff is telling Rosendo to think about what he is doing and how serious it is to kill a police officer.
Scene 8: Jules arrives home to find Nadia waiting for her. Nadia says that she was worried about Jules and asks if she is all right. Jules tells her that she is fine and to leave. Nadia says how sad that it must have reminded her of the death of her abuelo. Jules tells her that she doesn’t want to talk to her about anything. Nadia asks if she wants to know who killed her abuelo. Naida proceeds to say that she knows who did and so does Pedro - his own father. Nadia says that Pedro swore over and over how much he loved her (J) but he hid this, obviously his father was more important to him than she was. (Of course, Nadia has twisted the facts so that Jules will believe that Pedro has known all along and we know he didn’t.That girl is determined to poison any possible relationship between Pedro and Jules.) Nadia twists the knife by saying that she can imagine how much he suffered in such a horrible death. It’s a shame, (Nadia says) that Jules fell in love with the son of her abuelo’s murderer, and what’s worse he is an accomplice. During this Jules occasionally yells at her to leave, but you know Nadia, she doesn’t go til she’s finished.
Scene 9: Ponciano tells Pedro that he has put Cristobal’s and Nadia’s luggage in the car because they are leaving. Ponciano says he is confused, Pedro marries a woman he doesn’t love and now she is leaving with his brother. Who, he asks Pedro, are you going to end up with. No one, Pedro says, no one.
Scene 10: Cristobal asks Nadia where she has been. She says she went to say good-bye to Mateo because he is part of her family. Cristobal asks if she told him they were leaving and she says she didn’t find him. She starts to go get her bags, but Cris tells her that Ponciano already put them in the car. He says that they are going to spend the night in the hotel and leave in the morning in the truck? She seems surprised and he asks if she would prefer to take the autobus or what. She says it doesn’t matter. Pedro comes in and asks Cristobal if he has said good-bye to Genaro and Ofelia. Cris says Ofelia, yes, but Genaro, no, because he doesn’t matter to him. Pedro asks if he (C) is sure about what he is doing, doesn’t he realize that Nadia is using him. Cris interrupts him and not to worry, everything will be all right. They hug and Nadia and Cris leave. Poor Pedro gives them an anguished look and sits on the sofa with his head in his hands. (I hope he is praying, everybody is going to need all the help they can get for the next week.) Nadia and Cris and Ponciano drive off.
Scene 11: The sheriff comes to and staggers off. Genaro drives up and asks him what he is doing out there. The sheriff asks him to take him to town, but Genaro is still mad at him and refuses and drives off and leaves him.
Scene 12: Pedro goes to seek solace with his abuela. He goes in and kneels down by her chair. He tells her that he knows that right now it doesn’t help anything but he loves her very much. She tells him that of course it helps. She tells him that she feels like her heart is broken. He tells her not to worry that Cris will be back soon. She is very worried about what Nadia is going to do to Cris. Pedro says Cris won’t let this happen again. But Ofelia says she doesn’t share his confidence, that she has tried to accept Cris’ decision but she can’t. Her anguish is greater than her ability to pretend.
Scene 13: Lauro and Juan are talking about where is the shotgun. It is missing. Gabe comes in and asks what they are talking about and then he asks where Jules is. Lauro says she and Rebeca are still out. Rebeca comes in without Jules and says that Jules came home a while ago. Gabe goes off to look for Jules.
Scene14: Genaro gets out of his car at the ranch and a shotgun blast blows out his back window. He runs around to the other side of the car and Jules comes down the steps of that big building with columns holding a shotgun and tells him that she swore that if she ever found out who killed her abuelo she would kill him herself. She is standing pointing the gun at him. Meanwhile Pedro and Ofelia heard the shot and have started down to see what is going on. She starts to shoot him again, but the gun jams. Genaro starts for her, but Pedro has arrived and stops him. She accuses Genaro of ordering the murder of her abuelo. Genaro says she is crazy. When Pedro tries to calm her down she turns on him saying that he is just as bad because he knew and kept quiet. Ofelia asks what is going on and Jules tells her to get Pedro to explain. Genaro tells Jules to leave and starts for her again, but once again Pedro stops him, Genaro says that Pedro is an idiot and that he doesn’t know why Pedro keeps supporting Jules,whom he refers to as mentally ill. Genaro goes into the house. Ofelia says she will accompany her home, but Jules refuses saying that she wants Ofelia to have at least one good memory of her. (Pedro and Jules never take their eyes off each other, and if looks could, well, not kill, but slap, Pedro would have one more on his score card.) Ofelia asks Pedro what Jules was talking about and Pedro says that Nadia must have told Jules because Nadia heard Genaro and Rosendo talking about the murder. Ofelia asks why Pedro didn’t explain and he says why, to Jules he is the son of a murderer and nothing can change that and she can never forgive it.
Scene 15: Genaro goes to look for Nadia, finding the room empty he goes to Cris’ room. Ofelia finds him there and tells him that Nadia and Cris have left. Ofelia tells Genaro that she wants him out of the house. That she put up with him for the sake of the boys but now she wants him out in 3 days and if he doesn’t leave willingly she will have the law on him. At one point he says she can’t make him leave, but she says she certainly can because it is her house, and while he owns part of the ranch that does not include the house.
Scene 16: Nadia and Cris arrive at the hotel. He shows her the generous check that Ofleia gave him. He asks her to put his small suitcase on the bed and when he unzips it she sees the gun. He says it is for protection. She goes to change and he puts the check and gun on the bedside table.
Scene 17: Gabe finds Jules walking through the fields. He asks what she did and she says that she couldn’t do anything. He takes the shotgun and puts her in the car.
Scene 18: The gum-chewing deputy speaks! Sheriff Mendoza is holding ice to his head while the gum-chewing deputy tells him about the search for Rosendo. The deputy has put out the license plate number and Rosendo’s description to the Highway Patrol and the comandantes of all the neighboring towns. The sheriff says he is going to find Rosendo if he has to look under every rock. The deputy tells the sheriff that ? was asking about a former El Castillo ranch hand who was trying to sell a diamond ring and he was detained because they thought it was stolen. The sheriff says to call ? and tell him not to let the guy go for any reason.
Scene 19: Rosendo is waiting for Carmina in her room. He tells her that he was arrested for Marissa’s murder and Mendoza asked who he was working for. She asks what he told the sheriff and he says he didn’t tell him anything. Carmina says he should leave town, disappear. He says think about what I am suggesting (leaving with him). I’ll wait til the morning for my answer. He tries to kiss her but she pulls away.
Scene 20: Gabe knocks on Jules door and asks if she is calm enough to talk. He asks what she was doing with the shotgun. She says she went to kill Genaro. He aks what she was thinking, taking justice into her own hands. She says (yells) that no one was doing anything and hadn’t done anything for years about her abuelo’s death. Gabe tells her that this is the same helplesness he felt when Sofia died. He knew Genaro killed her but he was dying of desperation because he couldn’t prove it. But he still didn’t shoot him. Listen Jules, (he says) neither you nor I are murderers. (Where have we heard that one before? Must be in the genes.) What made you decide to go look for him? Jules gives him her stubborn look and says, “He killed my abuelo. Naida told me.” Gabe says she can’t believe this girl. Jules says she does believe her. Gabe says Nadia told her to give her a bad time. He asks what else Nadia said and she tells him that Nadia told her that Pedro knew. Gabe says that Pedro was a boy when it happened. Jules says but he knew and kept quiet and that makes him an accomplice. Gabe tries to make her understand how difficult the situation was/is for Pedro since he believes Genaro is his father, but she refuses to see his point. Gabe says that it is very difficult for Pedro with Genaro. Jules tells Gabe not to defend Pedro, that even though he doesn’t carry Genaro’s blood, being raised by Genaro has made him as bad as Genaro.
Scene 21: Nadia has changed in to a gown and robe, which ironically are more modest than her normal daily clothes. Cris has ordered dinner with wine. They toast their future and eat a little. She thanks him and he thanks her for this opportunity. (Hmmm what is he thinking?) and then he kisses her, and they end up on the bed. Cris is kissing her neck and she is eying the gun and the check.
Scene 22: Gabe and Lauro are discussing Jules behavior. Lauro asks if he realizes what could have happened. Gabe says that he does and he doesn’t justify her behavior but he understands it.
Lauro warns Gabe about Genaro. Gabe says he isn’t leaving SV until he gets back at Genaro. Lauro lectures him about how vengeful he has become. Arturo rings the doorbell. He wants to talk Gabe about something very important to Gabe, in private. They go outside to talk.
Scene 23: El Castillo - Pedro gets up from the table when Genaro comes down. Genaro says don’t go, we need to talk. Genaro wants to talk about ranch business, but Pedro says that he doesn’t work for him anymore and that he is going to see that the ranch is divided in half. Pedro says he will run his abuela’s part of the ranch. Genaro jumps up and says the ranch can’t be divided. Pedro says he can’t work for someone that he has no respect for. Before the argument can go much farther, Ponciano comes in and tells Genaro that something is going on and he needs to come see about it.
Scene 24: Lauro goes to Mag’s house to tell her and Diego about Rosendo.
Scene 25: Genaro and Pedro drive up to a spot on the ranch and encounter surveyors who tell Genaro that the bank now owns his part of the ranch and if he has any doubt ask the lawyer, pointing to Art who is sitting in his car. Genaro goes ranting over to Art yelling what is happening and Art tells him that he lost the judgement Genaro starts to attack him, but Pedro stops him. Genaro yells “Traitor,” and Art says he is just a father getting justice for his murdered daughter. Pedro asks what he is talking about. Art says Genaro knows very well. Genaro says everybody is crazy, blaming him for everything that happens in this maldito pueblo. Genaro and Pedro get in his car and drive off.
Scene 26: Rebeca tries to cheer Jules up with the new clothes she selected for her, but Jules feels very sad, anguished, hollow inside. Rebeca says that before she has always had a positive outlook in spite of the bad things that happened. Jules says that this time she is very scared. She has a feeling that something is going to happen to keep her from being happy with Gabe.
Scene 27: Genaro arrives at El Castillo to find Gabe sitting on the couch having coffee with Doña Ofelia. Gabe says -Genaro Valencia. Genaro says this is just what I need.Who invied you? Ofelia - I did. Genaro- Get out. Ofelia reminds him that it is her house. Genaro asks what Gabe wants. Gabe tells him that he knows that Genaro has lost his lands and that he is going to buy them. Genaro says that he will kill him first. Genaro grabs Gabe and pulls him off the couch. Gabe says that for Genaro losing the land is worse than losing Sofia. Gabe says he hates him for using Sophia to get the ranch and for making her the unhappiest woman in the world. Genaro says of course, you wuld have made her happy. Gabe says at least he would have tried because he really loved her, more than anyone else, and that he would never have left her if . Ofelia tells him to be quiet, but Genaro says let him finish; let him get out all his anger and frustration he feels because Sofia chose him. Gabe asks him if he really wants to know why Sofia married him. At this point Pedro walks in and stops in the hall. (Let’s get the geography straight. Genaro and Gabe are standing in front of the sofa facing each other. Ofelia is behind Gabe, and both have their backs to the hall.) He tells Genaro that Sofia married him because her father made her because he wanted to separate Sofia from him. Ofelia - Shut up! Genaro - Finish. Gabe- Because she was expecting my child. He turns to face Pedro and says, yes, you are this child.
Closeup on an astonished Pedro. Show ends. I’m not sure when he realized that Pedro was there. When Ofelia told him to shut up right at the end he turned slightly to see her and he might have seen him then. Or it’s possible that he only noticed him at the end.
So now the big question - How does Pedro react? I can't wait to see.

There is practically no back up to yesterday's episode tonight. The show opens with Jules asking Gabe why he keeps questioning her about her feelings for him and Pedro and he answers by telling her that Pedro is his son. She says -You didn't know? And he tells her that he only realized it when he learned about the blood. Jules tells him that could be just a coincidence, but he tells her that he asked Doña Ofelia and she admitted that when Sofia married Genaro she was "esperando Pedro" (expecting Pedro) and that Genaro never suspected because (the date was unknown?) I didn't really understand that expression but I'm glad they addressed it because I always wondered why Genaro didn't suspect anything.
Jules asks why he is telling her this. He says because she is the most important person in his life and in Pedro's too. He asks whether or not Pedro came to her to ask her forgive him. She answers by looking down. He says now she understands why he needs to know how she feels about him and Pedro, because he would fight the whole world for her love, but not his own son and that he could not take away his son's great love, especially if the woman preferred him (Pedro). Jules asks him to leave, saying that she wants to be alone. She is not angry just very sad.Gabe leaves.
Alla en el rancho grande, Pedro arrives and tells Nadia that he just saw Javier and that he was wounded that he blamed on her. She denies it but Pedro tells her that he knows her too well to think that she didn't try to get revenge on Javier for what he did. Pedro says she better be prepared because Javier will surely denounce her. Nadia tells him that Javier won't betray her. Pedro says that her ability to manipulate people is almost admirable and that it's incredible that it took him so long to realize what type of woman she is. She says she is no worse than the rest of his family and at least when she attacks it is not behind someone's back, not like Genaro who attacks so that people can't defend themselves. When he asks "De que estas hablando?" (What are you talking about?) She tells him that Genaro ordered Rosendo to kill Jules' abuelo. He asks how she knows this and she says that she overheard Rosendo and Genaro talking about it.
Ofelia goes to talk to Cristobal about Nadia. He is riding the excercise bike. She tells him that Nadia is using him to stay near Pedro. He says that he knows this. She asks him how he can be so calm if he knows this; doesn't he have any dignity. He tells her that he has a lot of dignity and that is why he is going to take Naida away from the ranch where he has to defend her against everyone. Olfelia asks where he and would go with Nadia and he tells her that he doesn't know. Ofelia tells him that if he goes through with this "estupido plan" she will disinherit him (I think that's what she said). She won't be part of his self-destruction.
Pedro goes to Genaro's office to ask about Nadia's accusation. Genaro says "And you believe that * instead of me?" Pedro says that Nadia has nothing to gain by lying. Genaro reminds him that she lied about the baby and about having money. Pedro tells him that money and power are all he has ever been interested in, that he married his mother for money and that he brought Nadia into the house for money and that he had Jules' abuelo killed all for money and power. Genaro hands Pedro the telephone and tells him that if he believes that then call the sheriff and tell him that he (Genaro) killed Jules' abuelo, and Alexandra, and Sofia and shot Gabiel. "What are you waiting for?" he asks Pedro. Pedro says if you weren't my father I swear that's just what I would do, but anyway I don't think it's necessary because if all this is true you are going to end up "caer solo." Genaro tells him that is what a lot of people would like to see but let me tell you that they won't get what they want. Pedro says look around you, your world is falling apart and what's worse, youll regret it greatly. You don't how sorry you are going to be.
Carmina goes to Rosendo's room at the pension to get him to help her get even with Genaro. She lets him believe that she is interested in a relationship with him, but I think she is putting him on to get him to help her.They arrange a plan.
Rebeca arrives at the Jules' house and asks Jules why she didn't come to the office. Jules says she had a lot to think about. Rebeca asks if Pedro came to see her. She tells Jules about Pedro coming to the office. Jules tells her that she isn't going to marry Gabe. Rebeca thinks Pedro has convinced her to marry him, but Jules says she isn't going to marry either of them. When Rebeca want to know why Jules just says she can't and asks her not to question her about it.
Gabe tells Lauro that he had to tell Jules about Pedro because it was the only way that she could make a definitive decision. Lauro asks what her decision was and Gabe says she didn't decide yet. She was so shocked that she couldn't talk about it. Lauro asks Gabe if it would matter greatly to him if Jules decided to return to Pedro. Gabe says of course it would, that he loves her with all his heart, but that he would accept the decision even if he died of sorrow. Lauro says he doesn't know how this is going to turn out but one thing is sure, it wouldn't take much for this matter to clear up, so he'd better be ready for Genaro's reaction if he finds out.
Genaro grabs Nadia and tells her she better leave the ranch. That he doesn't care if Cristobal supports her. He says she knows what he is capable of and if she doubts him ask Julieta what happens to people who get in his way.
Rosendo calls Genaro and gets him to meet him at the cantina.
Magdalena and Mateo are talking about Diego becoming a priest.
He wants to know why she thinks being a priest is bad. She says that she doesn't think it is, but she doesn't believe he really has the calling. Mateo assures her that if he doesn't he won't be accepted in the seminary. He tells her that he discouraged Diego at first but that Diego insisted and that he(Mateo) respects his decision and that she should too. She tells him that she doesn't want Diego to become a priest to pay for her sins.
Carmina intimidates the ranch hand into letting her into El Castillo. She tells him that she is going to see Ofelia, but of course, she goes to Genaro's bedroom and takes all the money out of his wallet and her jewelry, and a small case, about the size of a ring case, and the pistol. When Carmina leaves the room she meets Ofelia in the hall and Ofelia tells her that she better get out of the house.
Arturo and Sarah are eating dinner, Sara tells Arturo about Carmina coming to the house and asking to stay there. Arturo agrees with her about turning Carmina away. Ben walks downstairs and tells his parents that he is going to dinner with Rebeca. Sara doesn't say anything but she storms out and Arturo turns to Ben and tells him, "Good, at least, she isn't screaming, that's progress." Javier calls Ben from his cell phone (He is parked under that great oak tree.) Javier tells Ben that he is fixing to leave town and that he wants to tell him that the day Ale was killed he saw Rosendo in the hotel near Ben's room.
Rebeca and Juan find another anonymous note in Jules' house. They open it and Juan takes it to Gabe.
Julieta goes to talk to Mateo because she is going crazy. She tells him that Gabriel told her that Pedro is. When she can't finish the sentence, Mateo adds, "su hijo." Julieta tells Mateo that she feels that she is the cause of the animosity between Gabriel and Pedro. She says that because of her they hate each other and have fought, and said terrible things to each other. She thinks Pedro deserves to know the truth. She says she can't marry either one of them. Mateo tells her that none of this is her fault. Mateo advises her to marry Gabriel and leave SV because when Genaro finds out he will surely kill Gabriel.
Poor Pedro walks in just in time to hear this. Poor boy, everywhere he goes these days, someone tells him his father is a murderer. Mateo and Jules stall trying to think of what to say. Mateo finally says they were talking about what Genaro will do if he finds out that Pedro donated blood to save the life of the man that he hates most. Pedro has trouble believing that this is what they were talking about. He says that is stupid, but Mateo starts explaining about how much Genaro hates Gabriel and how Pedro is his favorite son and what Genaro might do if ... (I couldn't follow all of this, and even though Pedro could, he found it hard to believe.) He asks Jules if she is going to marry Gabe because Mateo advised it. She tells him that she doesn't have to answer him and leaves. Pedro tells Mateo that he doesn't believe that is what they were discussing. Mateo says he's sorry and with Pedro's permission he'll go to the church.
Ben and Arturo are talking. Arturo tells Ben that he doesn't have any doubt that Genaro is responsible for Ale's death. Ben asks what he is going to do. Art says he isn't sure about Rosendo, but that Genaro is a different matter. Sarah asks what he is talking about, and Art says for right now he is asking both of them not to interfer.
Pedro and Mateo are sitting on the church steps. Pedro tells Mateo that he has been thinking about what he said and that he was right. Pedro says he can't disregard the safety of Julieta and Gabe or anyone else, because he knows his father and what he is capable of, for example Miguel Balderama. Mateo asks what he is talking about and Pedro tells him that today someone told him that Genaro sent Rosendo to kill Jules' abuelo. How could I hope that she would want to marry me if I am the son of the murderer of her grandfather, Pedro asks.
Mateo asks if this is why Pedro came to see him. Pedro says that he doesn't know what to do. He thinks Genaro should pay for all he has done, including mistreating Cristobal, but he lacks the courage to do it because, after all, he owes his life to Genaro. Mateo tells him that if he had it in his hands to see that Genaro paid for what he has done he would do it, even though he is his brother. Pedro asks how Mateo and Genaro can be so different. Mateo says doesn't know and he has thought about this thousands and thousands of times. Pedro says he wishes his father was another class of person, but that can't be changed. Mateo says who knows, that things change and maybe he will find out some day that his father is another kind of person. Pedro says he doubts it greatly. (Ah, the look on Mateo's face is priceless. You can just see him planning the eventual reconciliation of Pedro and Gabriel - his beloved nephew and his close friend.)
Gabe isn't home when Lauro and Rebeca get there with the letter so they give it to Lauro who is very upset. He tells Juan to go back and pack everybody's things and for everyone to come to Gabe's house. Juan asks what to do if Jules doesn't want to come. Lauro said that he'll see that she comes.
Genaro meets Rosendo in the cantina and Rosendo wants money that he considers is owed to him. (Of course, we know it is really a ploy to get Genaro away from the ranch.)
Gabe is in the stables and Jules walks up and says that she wants to go ahead with their wedding plans and leave SV after the wedding. But she wants Gabe not to tell Pedro the truth. They argue about it a little and she asks him to do it for her. He grudgingly agrees.
When Genaro gets back to the house, he goes to lie down, and notices that his bedside chest drawer is open, and he discovers that his money and the jewelry are missing.
After Carmina returns to the pension, Rosendo knocks on her door, she hurriedly hides all the stuff except the small case. When she lets Rosendo in she gives him the small case.
When Gabe comes home Lauro tells him about the letter. Gabe throws one of his protective fits and storms off to Jules' house to make her come there.
En El Castilo - Genaro storms downstairs and finds Pedro and Ofelia. He demands to know who was in his room. When they both deny knowing anything he doesn't believe it and continues to rant and rave. Pedro tells him that he can't talk to Ofelia like that. At that point Genaro takes the riding crop Pedro has in his hand and raises it to Pedro. Ofelia moves to stand in front of Pedro to protect him and Genaro backs down and storms off. Pedro goes off to ride with Ofelia yelling after him that it is very late.
Nadia goes to tell Cristobal that she accepts his offer. He is in his pj's sitting on the side of his bed. She starts kissing him, but when the fall back on the bed he stops her and says that she better leave because Ofelia could walk in at any time.
When Gabe gets to Jules' house she refuses to go to his house but he goes into her room and starts throwing her clothes on the bed. When he pulls her suitcase out from under the bed she gives in and agrees to go.She asks him about the others and he tells her that all of them (Jules, Rebeca, Juan and Matilde) are coming to stay at his house. She salutes him like he's a general and says she'll follow orders. Jules sends him to wait for her in the living room while she packs.
Ben and Rebeca are at the restaurant and she asks Ben if he is angry with her. He says no but he is worried about something but he can't talk about it now because it's a very delicate subject. Rebeca says that he can't talk about it with someone as indiscrete as she is. He says it truly is not that. She tells him that she needs to talk to him about something. She tells him that her work in SV is over and she thinks it's time for her to return to Mexico. He asks what about him and she says he is very important to her and she would love to stay there to be near him but she can't stay in SV with nothing to do. (And for once, she doesn't spill anything on him.)
Back at Jules' houes someone comes in and hits Gabe over the head with a big stick and knocks him out. Jules is packing and the lights go out. She goes into the living room calling Gabe and discovers him on the floor. She tries to wake Gabe up, but at that point a flaming something is thrown through the window and flames roar across the floor.
