OURWAY held their Central and Southern regional tournament today at Shawnee High School. It is the quailifier for their State Tournament held March 24th at the University of Toledo. (Which there is no additional fee for.)
They did a nice job. Matches moved quickly. Ref's were good (yes there were a few situations, but they all seemed to be resolved fairly), Trophys were great. $2 admission and only $6 for a family. $1.50 for a slice of Pizza, $1 hot dogs, $1.25 sloppy joes - In other words great prices compared to other regional tournaments.
The Quality of the Wrestling was much improved over last year. Lots of kids wearing Jordan and Miron singlets. I know one kid that finished 1st last year, finished 7th this year. At least one bracket had 4 OAC Sate qualifiers in it.
Two negatives -
1.Mat Size- basicly Quarter Mats for 12year olds and younger, which is way to small for 11&12 year olds, and half mats for 13 & 14 year olds.
2. Some very thin brackets. Lots of BYEs in the 11 & 12 year old brackets. Some 13&14 year olds only had 3 man round robins.
