I run the Poland youth wrestling team. We are looking to epand to the 7th and 8th grades. We will not be affiliated with the local school district so we will need to wrestle in open tournaments. I am looking for a web site that has a list of tourneys in the Youngstown area. I also am looking for a list of weight classes for the junior high level.

Any other info that anyone thinks can help us is apperciated. Thank you.

I believe the Middle School Weight Classes for the 2007-2008 season will be:
80#, 86#, 92#, 98#, 104#, 110#, 116#, 122#, 128#, 134#, 142#, 150#, 160#, 172#, 205#, and 245#

I also believe that there will also be a two pound weight allowance on December 25th, meaning all the above weight classes will go up by 2 pounds.

This year the weights for the Jr. High Season will be:
80, 86, 92, 98, 104, 110, 116, 122, 128, 134, 142, 150, 160, 172, 205, 245.

There will be a 2 pound weight allowance on December 25th, meaning all the above weights go up by 2 pounds.

Some open tournaments have different weight classes though, so always check with the tournament director. (OAC has different weight classes, starting with 78 pounds.)

Columbus DeSales has an open "youth" tournament for Jr. High age kids.
They haven't set a solid date yet, but it looks like it will be February 9th. Their web site is http://jrstallions.tripod.com/index.html
It has last years info, but their schedule for this year says Feb 9th.
I'd check back there later in the year for more information, or you could try o contact them. DeSales always has good competition.

First, I'd like to apoliges to those of you who responded. I was having sign in issues. Your help was (and still is) apperciated.

I have gone forward and put a team together. I have 15 wrestlers from 7th and 8th grades. I would like some input about how much time I should practice these kids. I have to rent a local church and can only get it 4 nights a week. My wrestlers have varing degrees of experience. About a third of them have 2 or more years while the rest have none.

I am also looking for matches near the Youngstown area. I do have some scheduled but not enough for the whole season. I will also enter as many team tourneys as we can afford (we pay $450 a month in rent + insurance). I am most interested in tourneys that try to accomidate teams with more than one kid at a weight class.

Thank you again for the help. Nick
