How do you react to a slip of the tongue?

Okay, so WS and I are taking a beginner Dutch class - his idea as a way for us to intereact while we are split. It has been going good.

Well, last night, during one of the activities where we had to create a dialogue, he referred to me by my maiden name. Now, being that the province we moved to refuses to recongize my married name and I fought to have it put on my driver's license and health card, he knows this is a big thing to me. To his credit, he immediately apologized for the slip but, because we were in public, I didn't want to get into it. After class, as he was leaving to pick OW, I told him that he only calls me that after he has signed divorce papers. He got angry and said he apologized and regretted it the moment the first syllable left his mouth. I said I just wanted to tell him what I thought. He left ticked that I didn't drop it. Ileft angry that he wouldn't let me respond (BTW, I didn't yell or get angry, just stated how I felt).

So, as all of you have been in that state of looking for signs of does he/doesn't he want me, you can tellme - did I over react? Should I have just dropped it?

Right now you are rightfully angry. Any little "slip" is going to upset you, and understandibly so. Of course he doesnt like being told he was cruel. I, for one, think you have to let them know how you feel though. They did this, and your reaction is a natural part of the consequences. DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP over this.

((((hugs)))
