In all honesty, I'd rather not see Searcher as the villian for this.

Nothing against Searcher, but I'd like to see that whole 'stepping away from MOT canon' continue. (And yes, I'm wholey aware of the irony of making that statement while we're essentially discussing our own Octagon Rumble).
But if we're going to have a villian, I think I'd either like to see one of the Quasispacers or a character we create step up to the plate.
But here's a wacky (and wholey unoriginal idea)- do we need a villian? At least to start off with, the tournament could be held for purely mundane reasons- oodles of cash and the chance for interested parties to beat the snot out of each other without getting arrested, for starters.
We could certainly have the 'sinister reasons behind the tournament' come to light as the story progress... (Aam I the only one who's getting the urge to play this for comedy? Like have this whole thing be a racket set up by Kao for Smartie money or some such thing?)
So how does this sound to everyone else?
