I've had blocked tube since age 25, and 1 ovary and 1 fallopian tube removed at age 24 so I've known for a long time that IVF was my only option to conceive.
I married just before I turned 34 and we decided to try IVF right away, but I found out my FSH was 16.6 and got the donor egg speech. I was devastated, and took about 4 months to regroup.
I was also told my only fallopian tube needed to be ligated due to excess fluid toxic to embryos. Had laparoscopy in June of 2001, started acupuncture, cleaned up my diet (no dairy, hormone-free meat, no soda, caffiene, etc).
In August, started IVF treatments at Pacific Fertility Center in SF.
6 amps of Gonal F and 2 amps repronex daily
added in antagon last 2 days
stims for 14 days
retrieved 7 eggs from 1 ovary! 5 mature, 3 fertilized with ICSI
1 8-cell little fragmentation, 1 9-cell and 1 7-cell both very fragmented were transferred back
Got BFP on HPT at 9dpt, and beta of 151 11dpt, and 2 days later at 388!
U/S showed h/b at 6 weeks. Besides terrible m/s, I was blessed with a beautiful pregnancy, and the birth of an 8.6lb healthy son.
I never expected IVF to work for me given only 1 ovary and such high FSH. I think the things that made the biggest difference were the acupunture, prayer (lots of friends and family prayed for us), and acceptance on my part of the IF. I was at peace with donor egg by the time we tried IVF, and I only planned to try w/own eggs once for closure. I knew my priorities were wanting to parent, and experiencing pregnancy, with genetic link a 3rd in priority. I feel very blessed to have an 8-month old son, and hope that my story inspires other women to not give up hope.
