High FSH of 21 at 27yrs-Feeling depressed
by Elizibeth K (no login)
Hi All,
I'm 27 yrs old and got pregnant in Aug 2007 on clomid after 10 months of trying. Had a m/c at 8 weeks. I was devastated. I always had regular cycle though 35 days long. The doctor referred us to a RE.My DH has been diagnosed with severe MF and the RE advised us to move on to IVF/ICSI canceling our first IUI. We were about start our cycle in mid march, when things couldn't any worse I got a day 3FSH at 13 in Feb. The RE has ordered CCCT test and I flunked it with flying colors and the level was 21.
The RE gave us Donor egg speech. But he was kind and was ready to try 1 IVF cycle since my antral follicle count was good and he never imagined that I would get abnormal FSH. We are about start our 1st IVF cyle in mid April and the doctor gave us 0%-10% chance from this cyle and also warned us that he might cancel the cycle if I don't respond to the meds. After the m/c I'm even scared to try naturally!
Things changed so much in a short span and i'm getting depressed. We traveled so fast from IUI to IVF only to face thatI 'm not even eligible for that. I have started on Acupuncture reading so many stories on this forum and started taking wheat grass shots too.
I 'm depressed, lost and and feels like there is no future. I feel like I have nothing to wait for something in future and done with my life at 27 yrs. Why did this happen to me?.
Sorry for the long story

Hi... I was all set to start IVF last month to only get a call from the doctor stating my FSH is not where he wants it...it was 17. I will be 38 years old in a few months and trying not to be disappointed or stressed. I am hoping it will drop next month. Any suggestions on what I can do to increase my egg quality??

dont give up. i was 31 when i found out my fsh was 9.8. over a few months it rose to 13.8 and bounced around. we did 2 rounds of ivf. the first did not work. the second round they again had me on their most aggressive protocol, i was now 32 yrs, and they only got 5 eggs. the director of the program said that if this did not work he would not want to put me thru ivf again and i should look into other options. well, as i write this my 7 week old daughter is sleeping beside me. i prayed and used acupuncture both of which really helped. dont give up

I am very disappointed and really need your advice. I just saw the doctor who will be helping me with IVF but she told me that my chances of having a successful pregancy is 15-20%. She tested my FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and it came back as she put it "abnormally high" for my age(i am 38).
The FSH apparently is the test that determines if a person has good quality eggs. Since mine is abnormally high, it means most likely I do not have any good eggs. The normal FSH for someone my age should be under 10. (mine is 28)
Has anyone had an experience with a high FSH and gone through a successful pregnancy? I wonder if this high FSH has something to do with the m/c due to the PM. Would love to hear something positive. I am just beside myself as a woman and a wife. I feel like I have failed my husband (of course, he does not feel that way). He is very supportive.
Also, the doctor mentioned that I may want to consider donor eggs. I never even gave this a thought but I just dont know about carrying a baby who is genetically not mine. I may have no choice. Not even sure if my insurance company would cover something like that.
My head is spinning.

hi everybody,
I am new new in the forum.I was trying to conceive for about 2yrs.then diagnosed blocked fallopian tubes, had surgery 2 months back to remove both the tubes.then go for IVF but after 5 days of medication doctor cancle the cycle because not enough follicles are form(only 3 in one ovary which are about 11mm).then he says because my FSH is 9.1 which is elevated to my age (32).it may be cause of bad quality of eggs, now he put me on DHEA for 3 months.after that he will trying again.he says if my FSH is still like that than he may not do IVF.
i am very frustated.Dont know what to do?
if any body else like that in my situation please help me.

I spent 22 years looking after disabled parent who passed away in the summer. I am now 46 and thought that I could finally look to starting a relationship of my own. I have never used any sort of birth control and I thought that my cervical mucus and regular periods indicated that I was still ovulating. I knew that I had left it very late to start trying but I believed that I would be ok. I had a blood test last week to check for anaemia and my FSH level is 38.5, LH 28. The test was done mid cycle. Could it be a blip? It seems so unfair that I feel that I have wasted my life looking after my Dad and now I will never have a child of my own.
Is there any hope for me?
