Band: The Cast Pattern - James Savage (vocalist)

+++The Mic: What got this band together and started in
this business?+++

Hard liquor and diet pills. We all have warrants, so we have to be in constant flee mode.

+++The Mic:Who writes and produces all the material for
the band?+++

The band as a whole does that. All material is written within the confines of the practice space.

+++The Mic:The band played in front of or with any acts
our readers would
know from the Mainstream?+++

The metal mainstream, yes. We have shared the stage with: As I Lay Dying, Beneath The
Massacre, Born Of Osiris, Write This Down, Farewell To Freeway, See You Next Tuesday,
Evergreen Terrace, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Red Chord, Stretch Arm Strong, Misery
Signals, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Dead To Fall, Ed Gein, Psyopus, Bury Your
Dead, Paria, The Handshake Murders, Terror, Destroyer Destroyer, Black Cobra, The Minor
Times, Gaza, Remembering Never, August Burns Red, Through The Eyes Of The Dead, Thumbscrew,
The Esoteric, The Showdown, Embrace The End, Harlots, Nodes of Ranvier, The Classic
Struggle, Veil of Maya, Underminded, Origin, The Acacia Strain, Disrythmia, Nile, and we are
about to go on tour with Arsonists Get All The Girls and Knives Exchanging Hands. We will be
meeting up with this years Metal For The Masses tour on May 9th in Texas. That tour features
As Blood Runs Black, Winds Of Plague, Stick To Your Guns, With Dead Hands Rising and Veil of
Maya. You can always check out what shows we have coming up and with whom we are playing at
our myspace.

+++The Mic:Where can people access your music on the web?+++

www.thecastpattern.com - That takes you directly to our Myspace page.

+++The Mic:Any embarrassing moments on stage?+++

Ha ha, nope.

+++The Mic:Who is the bands musical influence?+++

It's different for each member. Our guitar player Chris is extremely influenced by the sound of barking dogs and singing birds. Our skinsman, Spencer, is into the sweet whispers of 17 year old girls. Our guitar player Jamakee loves the sound of his own farts, and likens them to Metallica's legendary opus, "And Justice For All". Brian Denman is influenced by the sound he hears in his head when he closes his eyes and styles his hair, and I can't get enough of early Godsmack and late Mudvayne.

+++The Mic:How did the band get together?+++

One day the metal Gods themselves arranged a chance meeting between 5 like minded metal warriors outside of The Douglas County Free Clinic, and thus, metal history was born.

+++The Mic:What is your musical background like?+++

We all come from a background of brutal electro/spazz/grind.

+++The Mic:Any other members in your family that are
musicians?+++

My sister is a metal vocalist as well.

+++The Mic:What is the TOP reason why you want to play
music?+++

To travel the world and meet new friends every day. We love the people that come out to see us and who get stoked on the music we play. We can't thank them enough.

+++what's your stance on file swapping?+++

Do it. It's always awesome to get a cd before its street date. It's like Christmas every time. I do it, but i also buy the record when I see the band live. In this day and age, you are naive if you think your album isn't gonna get downloaded for free. It's the true music fan that makes this crazy Carousel go up down and around.

+++what is the process of making a cd?+++

Replicated CDs are mass-produced initially using a hydraulic press. Small granules of raw polycarbonate plastic are fed into the press while under heat. A screw forces the liquified plastic into the mold cavity. The mold closes with a metal stamper in contact with the disc surface. The plastic is allowed to cool and harden. Once opened, the disc substrate is removed from the mold by a robotic arm, and a 15 mm diameter center hole (called a stacking ring) is removed. The cycle time, the time it takes to "stamp" one CD, is usually 2–3 seconds. This method produces the clear plastic blank part of the disc. After the metallic layer is applied to the clear blank substrate, the disc goes under a UV light for drying and it is ready to go to press. To press the CD, first a glass master is cut using a high-power laser on a device similar to a CD writer. This glass master is a positive master. After testing, it is used to make a die by pressing it against a metal disc.The die then becomes a negative image: a number of them can be made depending on the number of pressing mills that are to be running off copies of the final CD. The die then goes into the press and the image is pressed onto the blank CD, leaving a final positive image on the disc. A small circle of lacquer is then applied as a ring around the center of the disc, and a fast spin spreads it evenly over the surface. The disc can then be printed and packed.

+++how do you get the word out about your music?+++

Myspace, and cross promotion with escort services.

+++how is your local responce to your music?+++

We are finally getting a good response. It was never bad, but it has never been this good.

+++what is the farthers you have traveled for a gig?+++

We have had a a handful of 14 hr drives, so far, 2 of those through blizzards. We also have to drive from Lawrence, KS to North Carolina, in 4 days, so thats gonna be pretty brutal.

+++What tune on the cd are you most proud of?+++

"Shut Your Homeless Mouth"

++++++++++Now let's break away from the tradtional band questions you get asked
all the time...Let's have some fun...+++++++++++++

+++1. Why do HOT chicks date ugly dudes?+++

I don't know, ask Brian Denman

+++2. Why are all guys in porn movies Douche bags?+++

Because all the blood that is suppose to be fueling their frontal lobe is being taken up by their 10 inch trouser snake.

+++3. When Rappers do interviews on TV, why do they always have a wall of
Kung Fu movies behind them?+++

Doesn't everyone want to be a ninja?

+++4. If a billionaire would come to your band and say you could play
with any band..living, dead,broke up,etc.
*Who do you play with 3 bands one has to be your band...
and
*Who opens and who closes?+++

Vanilla Ice "Hard to Swallow" Nu Metal Ice - opens
