      Ceremonies Continue In The TRNC

Ceremonies are being held throughout the Republic to mark the 32nd anniversary of the second phase of the Turkish Peace Operation in Cyprus, which brought peace and freedom to the Turkish Cypriot people.

The 32nd anniversary of the Tashkent massacre was remembered with a ceremony at the Martyrs’ monument in Tashkent village today.

The Minister of Public Works and communication Salih Usar who attended the ceremony in Tashkent today pointed to the fact that the Turkish Cypriot people today desired peace because of the long years of pain and suffering they had had to endure.

He called on the Greek Cypriot Side to work towards finding a mutually acceptable, bi-zonal and bi-communal solution based on the political equality of the two sides.

Mr. Usar reminded that the Turkish Cypriot people had overwhelmingly supported the UN plan during the 2004 referendum which had envisaged a bi-zonal, bi-communal and federal solution to the Cyprus Problem and added that its determination in that direction still continued today.

The Minister, who also reaffirmed the Turkish Cypriot Side’s readiness and determination to work towards finding a solution if and when a new negotiations process begins, stated that a settlement on the island could only be reached if the Greek Cypriot Side sees and accepts the Turkish Cypriot people as its political equal.

The anniversary of the liberation of Gazimagusa was also marked with a ceremony in the town, together with a remembrance ceremony for the martyrs who fell during the defense of the town’s Turkish sector in 1974.

There will be a similar ceremony in Lefke tomorrow, which is celebrating the anniversary of its own liberation.

The victims of the massacres in Murataga, Sandallar, Atlilar and Serdarli villages, were also remembered with ceremonies yesterday, the first day of the second leg of the Peace Operation.

Meanwhile messages were also issued to mark the 32nd anniversary of the second phase of the Turkish Peace Operation in Cyprus.

In his message the President of the Turkish Cypriot Resistance organization Yýlmaz Bora stated that the island has reached peace and harmony with the second phase of the Turkish Peace Operation.

He also said that the peace operation contributed to the efforts in finding a solution to the Cyprus problem.
