A sum of Eight hundred thousand Cyprus Pounds is being paid today to South Cyprus in return for the power supply provided to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus following last week’s massive power cuts across the country.
The transfer of payment, which began yesterday evening with the assistance of the United Nations, is expected to be completed tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the director of the Turkish Cypriot Electrity Authority, Fuat Mertay said that the agreement with the Greek Cypriot Electricity Authority to provide additional power to the Republic, which originally expired on the 28th of January has been extended until the 20th of February 2006.
Mr. Mertay added that work to repair the 60 Megawatt unit at the Teknecik power plant was continuing and would be completed on time. |
