| TODAY IS THE 42ND ANNIVERSARY OF THE ERENKOY RESISTANCE
Today is the 42nd anniversary of the Erenkoy Resistance.
A remembrance ceremony in memory of those who fell during the struggle against Greek Cypriot attacks was held in the village located on the north-west of the island.
The official ceremony took place at the Erenkoy martyrs memorial. President Mehmet Ali Talat, government and military officials attended the memorial service alongside many members of the public.
The ceremony at the Erenkoy Martyr’s cemetery began at 10am this morning with a wreath-laying ceremony.
This was followed by a minute’s silence in memory of the martyrs who fell during the village’s defense against the Greek Cypriot onslaught.
Flags were raised to the national anthem and the special book was signed.
The commemorative ceremony came to an end with a tour of the Erenkoy Museum.
