Planned loging in for ages, but never really got to it, but at last i did,
so now, I have to think aboot anything to write, maybe this one,
just a wee question, wondering if anyone could answer!
As there,
I adore the libertinesque lyrics,
yet I can't comprehend the meaning of a few terms.
In such a way, in
"(...)it's a horrorshow,
you should come on round,
horror show,
the horse is brown...(...)"
well, what's that thing with the brown horse?
Is a brown horse any evil?
Well, if so, why/why not? :)
Does this have any significance at all!?
Or is it just an inconsistency,
having scrambled out of Mr. Doherty's unfathomable mind?
:)
Maybe daft wondering,
but I couldn't cease to cogitate aboot this one.
So don't judge me. :)
Ah,well!
Thank you Alex.
Distressing,
it is,
I should have known that, I think...
Gosh, I think I should sit down in my rooms dark corner, reflecting what else I dont know/can't get the meaning of. But then I'd grow very very old...
And quite mad as well...
;)

I always imagine them banging on the window to wake up Scarborough Steve. Sophie and I found some other lyrics that could also relate to some of their friends, but they have escaped me for the moment.

Re: left something in Moscow.
I was reading on Kate's site, where she's done a little interview with Peter, that he said the line 'left something in Moscow' refers to his heart...

actually it wasnt an interview at all. these are just extracts from Peter's e-mails that i've published on my website, 'cause I thought it would be interesting for the russian fans to know that.. thats it!

ohhh horse=heroin, never heard that one before but it makes sense now, the heroins brown as opposed to the china-white type you can get
left his heart in moscow? does he mean that in a way he loves some girl in moscow or he has family roots there or something?
did someone say Bill Bones is another referance to heroin or was that something else?
until closer inspection i didnt realise so much of their lyrics were about drugs :S

I heard 'bone' is another word for heroin / crack. But am not sure it's true, as I usually purchase my drug of choice somewhere else than the UK :)
Also someone pinted out that 'Bill Bones' is a character from 'Treasure Island'.
I always thought it was just a metaphor for 'death' in general.
Looks like were in desperate need of a scientifically annotated Libertines lyrics concordance...hmm..and I still need a topic for my MA paper in English lit. hmm...? ;)

I always thought it was Joseph from the Bible, the man with the multi-coloured coat and the visions of grandeur and corn. And his brothers despised him, the green-eyes betrayed and beat him and threw him down a well or something, then left him there to die. Hence "bloody in a hole"...

I always found it's an extra thrill hunting down odd bits of info here and there...rather then reading up about it all in one place.
Anyway, since a lot of what you have put in 'liberary' is from this forum..you might want to credit the people who posted here - not that I know that much..but others have contributed a lot.
here are two more bits:
- 'The boy looked at Johnny' is not only the title of the Julie Burchill book. There is also a song by Patti Smith 'the boy looked at Johnny'.
- the line 'lead pipes are fortune made' is from a Tony Hancock radio sketch.

the only things i got from here really are the grateful animals bit and some stuff about babyshambles from another thread, i actually spent all yesterday doing that page and researching it, cos ive nothing else to do at the moment.
I just thought something like this was needed, cos you always get new fans of the band who want to know, and also fans whove liked their music for a while who want to find out about these things.
Thanks for them others bits of info aswel

i've got one - 'wot katie did' is a childrens book by susan coolidge about a girl who falls off a swing and is partially paralyed for 4 yrs. its about much more than that though. like, how she deals with it and how it matures her...mite have something to do with the song...

there's more bits from this forum you quote..the anonymous post about who did what on Babyshambles for example. I even replied to them and asked if it was ok to put it on babyshambles.de for all to read - but did not get a reply. So whoever posted it was more comfortable with the info sitting somewhat hidden in here..I thought I'd respect that and didn't shove it onto the website.
- about 'katie' - before I had listened to the song I expected it to be about the Katie person who spread the rumour that Wolfman had died.
There also is this thing here:
http://neonpeach.tripod.com/
would that be based on the childrens book you mention hadzy? Not likely I think?
when I found this I noticed once again how quite a few songs The Libertines wrote remind me of nursery rhymes & childrens songs or old music hall songs. 'music when the lights go out' go out for example.
I don't know there is something distant and somehow old fashioned about it. I don't know how else to explain what I mean. But the childrens book asscociation fits so well in my opinion.
There's something sad about the melodies - like nursery rhymes always seem to be somewhat sad to grown ups..not the theŽkids who sing them though. That is how I remember Lily phrased it. I found that to be so true.
Please excuse the obscure language, I am not the best at explaining things like this.
Luv,
Alex x
