LIBERTINES/BABYSHAMBLES POSTER EXHIBITION AT FILTHY MACNASTYS...

Amwell street 1999. A dark misty evening in Olde London Towne

A legendary man by the name of the Rabbi was booking live music nights in the local Inn which lived by the name of Filthy Macnastys

Tuesday night was an open night for travelling musicians and the like. Geoff McIntire was the man behind the jump and behind evenings and he twas the man who took it upon himself to book a unknown rocknroll legend in waiting.
The Libertines.

Within months the bands singer - A certain Peter Doherty - would step the other side of the bar and start pulling pints to pay his way.
And within 60 months it was all over with Doherty and fellow front man Carl Barat saying goodbye to each other and their adoring public with an unscheduled duet at the same pub.

Local drinker Gary Loveridge was a witness to all from the very beginning.
Watching, enjoying and being smart enough to pick up the artwork at the end of the evenings.

The libertines are now part of music folk lore
And Gary is a celebrated expert and collector of music (punk in particular) posters.

He has held 2 very successful Punk poster exhibitions at Filthy's and is proud to show his latest collection at the same North London pub starting on November 13th

Gary explains "I have been collecting posters for over 30 years now, mostly punk and other bands ive been into such as the smiths, stone roses, oasis etc. I was fortunate being a regular at Filthy Macnasty's when Pete was the barmen and the libertines took off. Pete started as he meant to go on by being musically accessible to who anyone who wanted to hear him. During this time they played some of their first gigs and i collected a lot of the posters some of them being one offs just put up in the bar.

When the Libertines ended I started collecting babyshambles posters and still do to this day. Many of the posters are very rare and one offs. Some would never been seen again if i had not collected then. im looking for to exhibiting the posters where it all started in
Filthy Macnastys."

The exhibition opens Thursday November 13th 2008
From 6.00pm onwards

A series of events to compliment the exhibition will be announced shortly
