ramps/wheels up

I went out today & purchased some floor jacks & a 2000Kg mobile jack. I raised the front wheels as you suggested & this allowed me to get to the adjustment nut.The centre adjuster didnt travel far before it felt solid so I backed it off a bit & tighted the lock nut.
As its Friday & the traffic is s#>t I couldnt get to the freeway so the test drive was at 30mph only around my suburb. The play felt slightly better, but is largly still there. The rag joint is in good condition & all the linkages are firm. Makes one wonder why there is about 2" of freeplay. While under the car I could freely turn the rag joint back & forth, is this normal? Perhaps I should repeat the exercise of adjustment?
