Does Anybody Know where i Can Purchase A 71 Mustang 429SCJ Exhaust system From The H Pipe Back,Intermediate Pipes,Mufflers,Tailpipes,Exhaust Tips.
Thanks Norm
I am using the standard H pipe with the stock manifolds. I ordered all of the hangars and clamps. I decided to go with the turbo muffler set up. I wanted a better sound. If I wanted to used the stock mufflers, I would use the pipes supplied with the turbo mufflers and cut as required. I do not understand why no one supplies the remainder of the pipes unless you can buy them at the local auto parts store or it could be an issue with Ford copy rights.
Look at Exhaust Kit for 1971-1973 non original style dual exhaust P/N 5210-28. It is 2 1/4". This may work for your system but check it out.
Mustangs Unlimited has original bent pipes that are seperate. I have bought their tail pipes before, and the left one has the double bend in it. The only thing that was different from original is that M/U's are aluminum coated. At the time, they only had the turn down tail pipes, but i think they have both types now. At the time, i just cut the turn downs off to use the chrome tips.
They have the front inlet pipes too.
Their whole exhaust kit is listed for a `71 351C, but you can buy the pipes seperatly too. You don't have to buy the "kit".
I have yet to see what was maybe different about the front pipes or tailpipes, between a 351 and 429,anyway. Front pipes were 2 1/4" and tails were 2".
i just looked at their pipes...they have both types of tails, for tips and without...they are both 2 1/4", and w/tips the end is reduced down to fit the 2" chrome pipe one. (wish they had those back then.)
while there..saw they also have that parking brake switch ..from the other thread...$10.
I like M/U, because you can see every part on line.
Since M/U's replacment pipes are all 2 1/4", you would also need their 2 1/4" replacement muffler, which has the stock type mounts. I think it's also a little louder than stock, which was too quiet. (I would just buy the whole kit if needing everything.)
Thanks Rich,
I forgot about mustangs unlimited i used them a lot for my
65Kcode hipo fastback
They are a Half an hour south from me in CT and have a couple of car shows a year
Are 429SCJ exhaust systems All 2 1/4" From The h Pipe Back?
Thanks Norm
Original 351-429 front pipes were 2 1/4"...tails were 2".
The M/U replacement pipes I posted about are all 2 1/4" front and tails....that's why you would need their D1ZZ 2-1/4" mufflers. The mufflers are the correct length.
If someone needs everything..they should just buy one of the whole M/U kits. M/U has 4 different kits for 71-73 351+, depending on which mufflers you want, and whether you want to use chrome tips or not.
I think the better muffers would be the stock looking "turbo" D1ZZ's I showed, as the Flowmasters don't have the welded on brackets.
If i didn't have a big 2.5" performance stainless steel system for my car now, i'd probably go with the M/U system if I wanted something close to stock, but with a bit more performance?
IMO..Bob Wilson's system that Chris mentioned on his 429 Cougar is very very nice, but too stock for me...and i have heard Bob's system is too quiet. But if I wanted 100%+ stock and welded, i'd go with Bob's Boss 351 system....with your own 429 h-pipe....again, IMO.
(I don't know if Chris used the Boss 351 system as is, as 71-73 Cougars had slightly longer tailpipes than 71-73 Mustangs. Still should all work fine though on a Cat.)
72-73 Cougars had unique exhaust including both mufflers and intermediate & tail pipes.
In 72 cougar offered two differant dual exhaust systems - there was a "special quiet exhaust" and a "sporty exaust" both were options on the Q code engine.
If the Sporty exhaust was ordered shorter muffers and 2" tail pipes - the engine was tagged a 351CJ
If the Quiet exhaust was ordered 1 1/2 inch longer mufferles and 1 7/8 inch tail pipes the engine was tagged a 351 - 4V.
Norm,If you use npd, call the cali store and ask for Mark. I ordered the 2 1/4 from them with turbo mufflers correct clamps, hangers etc. The tail pipes reduce to 2 so my tips will fit. They dont list it as a kit,but tell him what you want and he will put it together for you. I have it all in hand except the h pipe which he said will be about 2 weeks late.So far it looks like all the bends are correct. My car still has the original exhaust on it.Its ruff but its still there.
