It's in "MY" booth.
The car will be sanded in there and then the whole place will be cleaned out, and then plastic will also be put on the floor so the room is then totally sealed.
Original upper control arm was bare, so it should be silver colored, if you paint it.
The water pump and stat housing were installed before engine paint, so the stat bolts should be blue. The water pump bolts and gasket should be blue. The stat by-pass hose was installed with the water pump, so the hose and it's two clamps should also be blue, but MCA allows unpainted too, (which is really wrong).
The P/S dipstick was installed when the pump was painted, so the dipstick should also be black.
No big deal...people do it all both ways..
just stating what was correct.
Rich Pajzer,
Are you really serious? As a Boss 351 owner, I didnt know that MCA allows you to have, Chrome water neck, coil, fuel pump,Distributor hold down bracket, polished water pump, aftermarket intake manifold and not D1ZX ,headers, aftermarket Distributor,Holley carb and not a Autolite 4300,aftermarket trans cooler and a C6?,,,,,,,,, Now, I have seen a 72 R code 3:91 C6 car and the Marti report, so I guess never say "Ford didnt build that".
Chris, sorry you may have taken my post the wrong way?
My car is built for me, the way i want it to be, not for or by MCA, or anyone else.
Now, this being a 429 forum, and most people here have 429's, I was just pointing out what was originally correct, (for everybody), as I think most people here use pictures seen here and on the Megasite to detail their (429) cars. There are (still) so many picture of wrong things, and people then see those and then copy the details on their car(s)......thinking these details are then 100% correct, because "someone" restored there car that way? I think it's safe to say that most here, that I have seen, are interested in what's 100+% correct? For one example, someone will look at a picture of what correct color the front shocks originally were painted. They then see a picture showing an installed front black shock inside a silver painted coil spring. Someone see's that picture and then paints there coil springs silver, thinking that spring color is correct, (when the picture was just of the shock).
Chris, your Cougar is very nice, and you are doing a great job, as usual.
My post about your engine was never intended to be on the negative side.
I went and painted my frame/engine mounts black last summer, so now i have to jack up the engine to remove the mounts, (without scratching anything),to paint them silver so that they look original bare steel. I have a few pictures showing they were originally bare, but not everyone can remember every correct detail, all the time, and everytime, or find all the pictures when needed. I was hopeing now i would find that some were originaly black, and i could leave them alone, but It looks like they will be comming out at some point.
I get confused with names that I have never seen a face to.
I thought your were Chris W., who I sort of know? In just going over other posts, I see that you are Chris L, or Chris Long. Thinking that you were chris W, I thought you would have understood my post about your 429 cougar engine, better?
Chris Long, are you the same "Chris" who gave me a set of 71-73 tri-pod gauges, back about 10 years ago, while we were both on VM-Forum? Rich Pajzer
Hey Rich,
LOL No I was just messing with you! I have been watching and seeing you restore your car for a while, I thought you had a 429 Mustang but I remember is was the Boss. As for the Tri-pod gauges,,,I don't think that was me? Man, sorry I was just ragging you, I think people should build there cars they way they want to, I had a lot of after market stuff on my Boss also, this is the only way cars will run Awesome!!! Stock is cool, but I would rather hide things that people cant see so it will run well!
Chris L AZ
Danny, the wheels are from Wheels Vintique, in Calf. The fronts are stock, and the rears are 10X15, made with an offset to center the tire in the rear wheelwell. The tires are just Goodyear Eagle 2's. The rears are 295/50-15. Don't remeber what the fronts are, but they are close to the stock F60's. (Cant use a stock rear sway bar with those tires.)
Thanks chris W. And thanks for the help on my Holley. I put in bigger jets as a starting point, and some lower power valves. Will read the plugs when the car is on the road, and then go from there.
I'm on vacation this week, so supposed to be sandind the Mustang, etc, but put a dual exhaust system in my truck yesterday, so I'm all sore today. Maybe by the end of the day, the sanding will start.
Glad to help you for once, man! That will be great to hear that your car is back on the road. We're all looking forward to it. What is the ETA?
Yeah, we're not as young as we used to be...I get sore, too, with all that laying on the garage floor
I'm still working on my '73 H-code ram air convertible. Do you remember me buying this former show car (magazine cover car from the early '90s) last year with yellow exterior and ginger interior and changing the interior to white? I then yanked the tired, original 2V 351c out and reworked the engine compartment and reshot fender drop down area (where the fenders bolt to the inner fenders). And the engine is at the machine shop now, I should have her back in a week or so. 408c stroker -- 16cc dished pistons, cast 4V quench heads, squarebore Boss 351 intake, roller rockers, roller cam..... Should run fine on 89 octane and generate about 400 easy flywheel horsepower.
The car should be a blast to drive! I'll post more photos/the story once I get her done. I will also need to reshoot the top of the trunklid and the underside of the hood.
Looks good Chris. Nice pistons, I've never seen those before? Must be some 6:1's LOL.
It's been sanding and body work all week here. Found that I can only work on the car about 4 hours straight each day, and that's about all I can take....even with the cool weather. The sandings only about 3/4 done. Doing it all slowly by hand...no machine. Taking more time than I though this week, but I'm spending more time in each area, so it should look nice when finished. Spend most of yesterdays time just sanding and scraping the pinch weld below the driver side rocker panel.
Wasn't planning on doing that, but the more you do, the more things you find that have to be taken care of. Working on it the next few weekends too, so hopefully I'll have it all ready to shoot the primers when on vacaton again in mid June.
