I wanted to post the alternator shield installed. This is the original shield. The two plastic retainers on either side on the sway bar bushing are original. The 1st retainer was missing and it is slightly larger in diameter. I have a pattern of the shield and I can send you the full size drawing if you are interested, let me know.

John and members,
Did all 429 cars have these? I looked at my Cougar and there are NO holes. Is this a Mustang thing?? Thanks, Chris AZ

Chris...This is a very hard item to find used much less NOS. None of the after market mfg's are making these at this time. See the 429 Mega site for details. Wish I knew where I could find one.

Let me check with a rubber supplier. I will try and get some made. I have the pattern and I can get the retainer clips (they are similar to the originals). I will have something next week.

From memory, when we first looked into them, the FORD MPC stated the shield for the Mustang was used on 6 cyl's and 429's. The shield had two differnt parts numbers, the first shield used in 71, and then the later one that was used in 71. (don't know what was different between the two.) I think we found here that most early 429's didn't come with a shield, and most 429's didn't have one at all?. Some do have it though.

Chris,my car 4/71 build never had the holes in the sway bar area or the crossmember,so I believe mine never had it,also think that If a car had one and it deteriorated and fell of most likely the clips would still be present
