As alot of you know I recently perchased a 1 owner 158,000 mile 429cj mustang. There are alot of original parts still on the car.The radiator being one of them.(d1ze-ea)While driving last weekend it overheated.I pulled the radiator and took it to the local shop. They called today and said its original all right, probly never been out of the car.Well to shorten this, recore is 350 3 row and 450 4 row.plus he said all the new cores come with the side rails so the rails with the part numbers stamped on them would not be used. 275 for a replacement 3 row. What to do,I want to keep as much original parts on the car as possible.thanks in advance Danny

I know your problem very well. See "429 running hot" on page 5 of this forum. My car was fitted with a Griffin before I bought it,so I guess you must decide if you want to go down the 100% original NOS path or run slightly modified like some of us?
You will notice information given on this forum is very specific and its dedicated to the 100% correct restoration of these rare cars.

Since the original posts I have since replaced the thermostat, added Redline Water Wetter which appears to have lowered the temperature further, also an overflow can, but its our mild winter here, so next summer will be the test.
From my research I have the only 429 Grande in Australia, so any mods made (mainly electronics) can easily be reversed to go back to 100% original. As parts are cheap in USA (by Aus prices) an aftermarket radiator could be fitted until you find a NOS part.

Cheers Brent

Radiators

May 13 2008, 8:58 PM

Danny I have restored several 429's the past few years and had all of the raditors re-cored and kept the original top rails with the numbers. I would check with another radiator shop, if you can't find one, you can send me yours and I'll take it to my guy. Its about 550.00 for the last one I had done.

Allan

Thanks all, shortly after posting the guy who will actually be doing the work at the shop called and said he could use the original tanks and side rails with the part numbers stamped in them.He said he understood how important it was to keep as much original parts as possible.I wasnt expecting to spend 375 on my radiator though. Guess I will have to wait on some of the other stuff I want to do.Danny
