As a number of you may know I am in the process of restoring my 2nd J code 429CJ Cougar. both of my cars were built 4 days apart and are in the 3-4th week of october build date periods.
Both cars have a 1/2 inch rear sway bar. The car that I am currently working on still have the correct N cas/ 31 spline axels, and original 429CJ drive shaft and C6 transmission so I have no reason to suspect a switch.
Do you think
1. Cougars with this drive train received a 1/2 bar while the Mustangs received a 5/8th?
2. There was a production shortage at that time and the 1/2 bar was substituted?
3. The Bars on both cars have been replaced over the years.
The Merc MPC only shows a 1/2 inch bar for Cougars

Hi all, A local (Central Valley ,Ca.) suspensions place has made inquiries to me about using my SCJ-R to make a rear sway bar in the past. I will ask them this morning if they still want to do the project. About how many here are interested in a repro?
I would be very interested in a repro 5/8" sway bar for my 429 C-code and my 2 72' R-code 351's(they also took the large rear sway bars, just like the B351s)!
I'm heading over to the shop this afternoon, and I will go meaure the one on my car. Will grab a pic IF I can. I will ask my guy if he's heard back from the company as yet. I will let him know so far there is a QTY of 3ea of interest.
Hi Dean...I talked to you last year about bringing your mustang to our show in San Diego in October...couldn't forget the brickhouse429 name. As I remembered you live in or around Hanford, is that right? How much does your fabricator want for a sway bar? Hope you can make the trip next year. I have a couple of cars that you could pick up along the way with your hauler...
Hi Ron,
I'm on you mailing list. Good way to keep up to date for down there. As for the bar, I didn't have time yesterday to get under my car. As for price, as normal, the higher the interested quantity, the better. The plan is also to get close to the correct coating and marks.
It helps that I'm also working with a local Mustang restoration shop (Ray Greer's mustang Alley). He's mainly 64-70, but has done a few 71-73's. He calls me from time to time on these cars.
He is doing the negotiations being it's his suspension guy.
Any more out there that may be interested in getting a rear reproed bar? Maybe even the smaller models may want to upgrade from 1/2 to 5/8? I had one if them 1 inch and something on an M-Code years ago. Way to harsh.
Someone told me the 69-70 rear sway bars were the same or could be used on the 71-73 cars. I don't know??? If so, you might can get more orders from the Boss 302-429 guys.
I should ask if this bar will work on a 70-71 torino? Anyone know for sure? If so you could post a line on the Torino Cyclone technical forum (sorry I can't provide a link) Gary.
