I am restoring a 1971 Mustang Grande and need to replace a door. I have found a 1971 Cougar but I am not certain that
the doors are interchangeable. Can someone tell me if the doors are the same? Thanks. I really enjoy this site, so much
information on 71's.

Tilt wheel

October 22 2009, 2:19 PM

If your tilt won't stay in place this may be the part you need.

Here is a tilt wheel part I found on eBay. Not mine.

This broke on mine and I had a hard time finding one. This is the spring that holds the wheel in it's adjustment notches. There is another part with notches that wears out also. It rides on this spring.
I bet there are more broken ones out there.

I think it also fits Ford trucks and vans up to 79.

Doors

October 22 2009, 4:24 PM

Danny,
They will bolt on but none of the body lines will lign up. The inner shell is the same, just not the skin.

I am thinking of making a "Cougstang" In the future. I have a Cougar convert "parts car" and thinking of putting Mustang doors, fenders, hood and grill off a Mustang. The body line on the qtr would need to be worked a bit to match the Mustang door, but would be a interesting car. Half Cougar half Mustang..???

Thanks, My door is in pretty bad shape. I will probably take a stab at repairing
it. Seems like used 71 mustang dorrs are hard to come by.

Yes, that would be an interesting look. You could call it a Catstang or maybe not.

I have an excellent set of doors that I've been saving

October 24 2009, 10:21 PM

I have a set of coupe doors in excellent condition - no rust - no body work - complete doors, glass, internals, etc...

They are not cheap but won't require bodywork either. $500 each. They are in Plano, TX.

Thanks for the offer, I think I'll a wait and see if anything comes available closer
to NC. I may try to fix mine also since I am in no hurry at this point.
