Probably best, you get in touch with real estate agents in Cairns and give them your ideal proposal.

They then put you into the market for suitable options on sales available within the located area.

Cairns is beautiful and I'd say slightly outside (say 10 - 15 minutes) drive is probably recommended than within the city itself.

Freshwater/Stratford/ Redlycnh all flood during cyclones or wet season. Edge Hill/ Whitfield/ North Cairns and surrounding suburbs really bad for mozzies. If you ask me I say buy in one of the southern suburbs...such as Bentley Park/Mount Sheridan or Edmonton they are shielded by mountains, Safe and only 15 minutes from the town centre...

As a side note

Ive seen on the Townsville street directory a whole section of streets named after most of the major PNG towns. Em mas wanpla PNG investor developim.

Examples are;

Aitape st, Nadzab St, Madang St, Bougainville St, Kerema St. All in Stuart and Arawa St in Kelso. Mendi St in Bushland beach and I think there are many more.
