Slurring 'speaker' fined

Thursday, September 24, 2009

© The Cairns Post

A MAN who drunkenly insisted he was the speaker of the Papua New Guinea parliament has been fined.

In Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday, Michael Ray Kupe pleading guilty to being drunk and disorderly at Gilligans nightclub on September 6.

He was arrested after becoming belligerent and aggressive to police after he tried to put his hand on a female officer.

He was fined $75.

Most North Queenslanders don't give a damn who you are or were in PNG. Even if he was the Speaker he would still have been arrested - and should have been fined a lot more than $75.

He should bury his head in shame not only for his disorderly behaviour but for trying to be someone else.

Who the hell did he think he was. Pretending to be the Parliament Speaker did not mean anything nor would have provided him any immunity from an Australian Law.

Total Disgrace - He should apologise to PNG for dragging the country as low as himself.
