Isn't it funny how smells affect each of us so differently? I
love the smell of the Tangle-Go and used it just this morning after washing - but I can barely detect the smell on my hair now. I don't usually like florals but like it and AO's Honeysuckle Rose poo and conditioner too. But, I know how it is when you don't like a scent; I won't use a product either if I don't like the way it smells.
Yes, you could try your own detangler using those ingredients. Figuring out the proportions will take trial and error, but it might be worth a shot. I make a detangler from a recipe I got online somewhere that I use mainly for "rejuvenatiing" my hair (rather than detangling) when it's dry, like when I get up in the morning and want to get out a kink or bend in my hair, or right before it's totally dry after washing to help my wimpy waves. I always spray it on my ends on non-wash days. Here is the recipe, just for info and maybe help you with the proportions of the one you might make. I really haven't tested the detangling properties of it since my hair doesn't tangle much.
Natural Detangler
Ingredients:
8 ounces distilled water
1 teaspoon aloe vera gel
1 – 2 drops glycerin
1 – 2 drops favorite essential oil for fragrance
30 drops grapefruit essential oil
8 drops jojoba
Instructions:
Combine in spray bottle. Shake before each use.
You can really play with it and come up with your own special blend with your favorite oils, scent, etc. With just the grapefruit essential oil it smells very light and fresh; I like it a lot. The other EO I usually add is a bergamot/grapefruit blend. You can research which EOs are best for hair and add them if you like the way the smell.
I love fiddling with stuff like this, but haven't had much time lately.

The animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted
with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not our breathren, they
are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendor and travail of the earth.
