Locks of Love -

After all the discussiosn of LOL, and my frustration at all the kids getting recognized at my daughter's school for donating their hair (which inevitably results in her getting kids saying 'you should donate yours')- I recently ran into a friend who told me that her 5 year old daughter's hair starting coming out in clumps and she was dx'd with alopecia. The mom said that she contacted LOL and although they made her go through an intensive evaluation process to see if she "was a candidate" she is going to end up getting a free wig from them for her daughter. She appeared very grateful that it "finally" got approved and that she wouldn't have to pay, as they are very expensive.

So I kind of feel a bit "softened" towards them right now. However . . . I still feel it is WRONG for anybody to tell anybody they "should" donate their hair. I think that suggesting a person with long hair to cut it off and donate it is only appropriate if at the same time all the short-hairs are encouraged to grow theirs out to donate it as well! Since they prefer short hair, have them grow it out and cut it off -- it's less of a sacrifice for them anyway! So in that respect I still don't like the "pressure" put on kids at school, but at least I was glad to hear my friend is getting a wig.
