Because...

The little balls can catch hair and pull it out. My sister has a Yorkie and she was told never to use a brush on him that has the balls on the end for the same reason... it causes breakage. It is hard to find them without the balls, but it is better. Now if you don't find the brush catching your hair at all, then I say use it, but continue to pay attention and make sure hair isn't snagging on it.
