I braid my hair before going to bed. I used to either use a ponytail holder or else nothing and wake up with unbraided hair. But now I have a new system of keeping my hair braided.
I braid my hair, but allow my ends to tangle with each other. They eventually sort of knot at the ends. As I continue to braid, both ends become braided and the middle part gets smaller. When the opening gets small I stop braiding and tuck the tail between the braids. That locks it in place and keeps it from unraveling. It's a great way to get your hair into a braid and out of the way quickly.
