Hello!

What did you think of the shampoo bar? Which one did you try?

Nic.x

Hair type: 3aNii
Basic routine: CWC every third day. Aubrey Organics, and trying Ida's shampoo bars.
Every week: ACV rinse, mixed with tsp lavender flowers; tsp rosemary tips; 3 drops of lavender eo; and enough warm water to make a 2 litre bottle.

Oils: Jojoba (mixed with eo.s); EVOO; Coconut

Brush every other day with BBB and comb out all the time...curly hair, lots of tangles!

I tried....

April 2 2006, 10:34 AM

the lavender and spice one. I liked it a lot. I dared not to use conditioner to see the effect of the shampoo on my hair more clearly.
So, my findings:
1- my scalp was squeaky clean with no dandruff and the circulation felt somehow 'activated', probably because of the essential oils;
2- my hair seemed coated when still wet, but when it started to dry it felt nice and slippery;
3- when completely dry was huge in volume but with some frizz, although it was not frizzy in the same way as it was pre-Loom, you could tell it was still healthy looking and shiny;
4- after adding a dollop (literally) of Anita's cafe-latte my hair turned into shiny waves! Not immediately, after about an hour or so. I couldn't believe it possible but there it was!!!

I also tried the rose clay shea soap on my face. I hadn't had such smooth skin since I was 6!

Next will be, I think, the herbal shampoo bar or the carrot milk and honey.

How is it going with you and ida's bars?

Juliet

Ohh. Can you tell me what Anita's cafe-latte is? I am trying Ida's shampoo bars, too. Do you find that when you rub them on your head, the top gets tangles?

to avoid the tangles ...

April 2 2006, 7:10 PM

before i use the bars i put some conditioner on my length. then i hang my head over the tub so that all the hair is hanging down and then wet the hair and rub the bars on the scalp only. i massage all over the scalp, then hold my hair away while i start to rinse. when most of the suds disappear, i continue the rinse by massaging the scalp ...followed by acv.
my hair is not naturally curly, although i used to have a perm! hope this helps cheers

oohh, the spice one!

April 2 2006, 6:37 PM

I wanted some of that, but when I ordered it wasn't ready to ship, and I was being impatient!!

Does it leave a nice spicy smell?

I've got a whole bunch of samples (shampoos and normal soaps) which I'm alternating. The red clay bar is fab on the face, as is the Cucumber/yoghurt one.

To avoid tangles, I tend to do most of the lathering in my hands, and then applying it to the scalp. At the moment, I'm generally doing a bit of a product-combo: Aubrey Honeysuckle conditioner on the length first, then a thorough scalp wash with the bar. I tend to rinse with the ponytail held out the way, rinse the conditioner too, then give it an acv rinse. If I don't have the vinegar for a rinse, and I've got oil on the length, I soap all the length and then condition it again.

In my (limited!) experience, the bars do leave some residue that you need a rinse to shift. Tomorrow I'm going to try a rinse with lemon juice and water - I really don't like smelling of vinegar all day if I can avoid it!!

So--you got something from Anita? Cool - I'm too poor at the moment, but when I get paid next I might treat myself. Since we have pretty similar hair, any recommendations?

(the 'Anita' we're referring too is Anita Grant, a UK-based lady who makes a (limited) range of natural products)

Take care

And more...r/o

April 3 2006, 5:31 AM

Yesterday I tried the Herb Garden one. This time I had to do an ACV. I got some apple cider vinegar from Sainsburys (something like £1.99), mixed it and used it and really you will not have vinegar smell in your hair. After 1 and 1/2 litre of the thing I just did a cold water rinse and that's it, no smell!

I really hoped that the shampoo bars left a nice scent on the hair - that being one of the reasons why I did not want to use conditioner, to keep the nice scent - but I'm afraid they don't! So Yesterday I used the Honeysuckle C after shampooing.

I give the shampoo bars 7 out of 10 anyway, scalp happy, no flakes, no itchiness, hair clean. BUT shame for the need of ACV though, it's not something I like doing!

The soaps get a 9 out of 10: I tried the Dead Sea Spa in the bath: boy, you get very dark water and the smell is soo sooothing! It seems to exfoliate naturally and you can feel the deep cleansing effect.

I tried the Rose Clay Shea three times now on my face. I have skin a bit patchy in the morning and more often that not I have to use a tiny bit of foundation here and there just to even it. This morning with all that sunshine (not anymore, by now it's overcast again) my skin was SO even in tone and whiter than usual, I suspect more deeply cleansed than with E Lauder!

Oh, I forgot, about Anita...

April 3 2006, 9:00 AM

I got the caffelatte with a drop of vanilla. I received it on Saturday and I tried it immediately on my dry ends: fantastic! Shine, smoothness and no greasy feeling. It smells heavenly, choco-coffee-vanilla mmhh...

If you order, I recommend the Lippy Pucker. I ordered the normal one and she threw the chocolate one also for free! They are absolutely fab! With our windy wheather I always have dry chipped lips. I wore it all weekend at home and my lips today are in top condition.
