October Measure In

October 1 2007 at 3:47 AM

Jules  (Login CrowningGlory)

I hope I'm not starting this thread too early. I don't even know what my 'official' measurement is yet (I know it's grown this month but I don't know how much) but I do have one to report so here goes ...

May 2007
1c/M/ii
Dark brown with natural red and silver highights.
Starting length 25"/62.5cm
Current length 31.5"/80 cm
Goal 36"/90cm
Shampoo: Organic Formulations diluted with herbal tea
Conditioners: Organic Formulations or Nature's Gate mixed with honey 1:1
Other: Sweet almond oil; EVOO; ACV infused with herbs; BBB; wooden comb.
Current routine (trying to keep it as simple as possible): CWC on the weekend (first 'C' usually several hours before washing), scalp washes every 2nd day; oiling at night; braids for bed.

'Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfailing beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.' 1 Peter 3:3-4

38"

October 1 2007, 3:51 AM

Lacemitts is currently on vacation in England (hope you're having a wondeful time if you read this) and before she left she emailed me and asked me to post her measurement. She's grown 1" in the past month. Woo-hoo!

(I so wish the 38" was my measurement but it's almost as exciting posting it for Lace as it would be if it was my own).

An inch for the month? England weather must make hair grow. Or maybe it's the happiness? Lacemitts! Send us pictures when you come back from across the pond. England - what a fabulous vacation destination. (And I got to say 'across the pond' too.)

And a wave to Jules in the southern hemi too. It's nice of you to post for Lace.

Which means an inch and a half growth. I think that must be wrong but DB is pretty careful with the measuring. He's a perfectionist. Works for me though, that's a hell of a growth spurt and totally out of season.

I didn't want to measure this month since I'm afraid this will make it month four of no growth and quite frankly, I just don't want to stress about it. But I'm totally going to try the nightly scalp massage! I can only hope my results are as good as yours!

33.5" for me.

October 1 2007, 10:12 AM

My hair is surprisingly not bad at the ends considering not trimming in so long.  It's been 5 months since my last trim.  I do miss the blunt hemline, but I'm getting more and more used to the fairytale -- hopefully one day I can have both long hair and a blunt hemline.

I like that I'm back to the Zerran shampoo. I have to wash every 2nd day -- it doesn't last as long and I get the greasies quickly  but I feel like it's very gentle on my hair.

Didn't have my usual growth spurt this summer.  What's up with that??

Hi Mermayd :)

October 1 2007, 10:36 AM

How are YOU? I think fairytale ends looks so pretty on wavy hair. If mine was just more wavy, I'd go for a more tapered look too. Some days mine looks so straight and other days it's just straining to have a bit of a wave (like in my pic below in my current length post) - but it's never truly wavy anymore... guess it's too long and the weight pulls it down. Plopping doesnt help at all anymore!

Anyway, just wanted to wave and say howdy!

Hi Avrilon, I'm fine thank you!

October 1 2007, 1:49 PM

I'm not actually "going for" a more tapered look, I'm just frustrated overall with the trim/don't trim thing. If I keep my blunt hemline I never gain length. So I've decided to not trim 'till May (which will be one full year) and then have a small trim to even things up. Unfortunately, if I were to trim to where I'd have a blunt hemline again, I'm afraid it will be back to where I started Can't tell if my hair has slowed down with no trims, but I didn't get my summer growth spurt this year. Which makes me wonder if the trims help . . .

Your hair is looking great, by the way! I wish I could get that hemline, at that length!!! I want to be 34", with a thick blunt hemline!

Great to see you here, you've been gone a lot lately!

My growth spurt has ended - 22 ish

October 1 2007, 10:28 AM

I think I grew about 1/2" this month (after 1" for several) and I trimmed that all off. I have alot of damage from my highlights because I did them six weeks after I dyed it red. It fried my hair. I am going to keep trying to grow it, but for now, I am going to work on keeping it looking good. I think I might even brave the salon next month.

... here is what 34" looks like on me air-dried (I'm 5'10"). And something new for me - I've decided to go for classic if my hair will cooperate. I've been cutting back to waist the past couple of years and am now wanting to try it longer. As long as I keep my ends trimmed, it seems to keep growing.

I hope everyone is doing fine; I wish I could post more often!

An Lil, if you see this, you and your hair are looking just beautiful! (and no, you don't look 53!)

October 2 2007, 3:02 PM

That's you, Avrilon! I love it! So you cut back. Hmmm. You cut back far! Well, you're doing what I'm doing in reverse order. I'm cruising to classic, a little slower this month than last, but when I get there I'm going to keep trimmed at that length - for a couple years is my plan. When I was 30 and had this length my ends were just as they are now, so I'm curious to see whether cutting will add fullness to the tippy ends. It will BEEE an EXperiment. Technically.

I've (((missed))) (you) (((greatly))) which is an understatement. I have not had any pennies looking like dimes and nickels as of yet. lol!

Am looking forward to the day when you start your blog. You will need to start it before your move so you will be able to look back on these days - you can have the "before" and the "after" days on your blog for posterity.

Howdy! :)

October 3 2007, 9:57 AM

I've missed your crazy self too, missy! I do lurk a lot and try to keep up with yer whereabouts, but it's not the same as touching base now and then...

And yep, I've been keeping my hair at waist since I like to wear it down a lot and I work in a corporate environment... my thinking being that it was neater, etc. at that length. Well, I've had it at waist long enough and want to go longer for the first time ever (plus, even though I work at a corporate place (...*sigh*...) my head is already at our little farm). And I've been researching updos that I really like. By the way, I'm so glad you posted your sock bun in your blog 'cause I was having the same problem with it looking like some kinda deformed tulip (hahahahahahahaha!) And... duh... I didn't have the brain cells to think of using a scrunchie instead of an elastic. It makes such a big difference! So thanks for having a bigger brain that I do Lil!

I'm looking forward to seeing a new length picture from you though I was pleasantly surprised at the cockeyed one in you took in your kitchen. It looks beautiful and looooong!

I'm anxious about my blog. I actually have it set up and ready to go and now that Mike traded one of his Harleys for a bulldozer, things will be happening at the farm - so I'll have something to post! You should see him... he can't wait to get on that thing and start pushin' dirt around - yeehaw! Lol! We have great plans and are hoping to move in part time next spring. Stay two days at the cabin and 5 days where we currently live. I can't wait! But yes, I do need to start recording things in the proper way! You've motivated me to blow the dust off it and get it goin'! Definitely need some before and after shots.

You take care out there in the west. I do love the light out there!

Avrilon

37" and a new pic...

October 1 2007, 1:00 PM

I was really surprised this morning when I measured because I trimmed off 1/2" in September, which brought me back to 36" - so when the tape said 37", I was shocked and pleased! I asked my son to click a quick pic, too...

In hindsight, I should have sat up a little straighter!

My ends were getting a little tangly and I was considering a 2" trim, but after I henna'd my ends were happy again, so no trimming for me. Yeah!

Hi mermayd...

October 3 2007, 12:11 PM

hmmmm....good question! I am not really on a set schedule, but I've been trying to trim when the season changes. But then again, if my hair needs a trim before the season switch-a-roo, then I've done it. Recently I trimmed 1/2" in early August because I felt like my ends were getting thin. And then I trimmed again in early September - another 1/2". I was condisering it again at the end of September, but then I henna'd and my ends were happy again. So when the season goes from Fall to Winter in December, I'll re-evaluate and trim if necessary.

Hope this helps! Hugs!

Kara, your hair! Great pic. It's really long and so pretty. So you are having most excellent growth?! Good going. (Henna is good stuff too - saved you a trim even!)

16.5 inches

My hair grew a half inch in September. The growth spurt is over but that's OK. Slow and steady is good too!

80cm/31.5"

October 1 2007, 4:13 PM

It's grown roughly 1/2" this past month. Hopefully now it will keep on growing and not have these "stop and start" periods.

Hairwise change is in the air. We've just removed our shower and I'm going to have to adjust to washing my hair over the bath. Experimentation will be the order of the day since previous hairwashing in the bath has been none too successful.

Noticing really dry ends again. I trimmed a month ago to remove dry ends - not ready to do it again. I really want some growth and trimming it off each month doesn't help. However I may have to decide between length or health and I suspect health will win out. Will give it a few more months before deciding to maintain this length or try for longer and just put up with dry ends.
