Karma hits me in the face!

July 2 2009 at 12:25 PM

  (Login LeahHays)

Funny thing at the office happened this morning. After my little rant of not getting a true measurement on my curly hair yesterday and feeling like I'm not getting any where in length, Karma jumps up and slaps me in the face! I normally wear my hair up all the time at work. Different styles just about everyday. Well, this morning I felt like wearing my hair down. One guy says to me, "So you are wearing your hair down today. I didn't realize it was so long." Then later on another guy says to me, "Wow! How did you get your hair to grow so long so fast?"

OK, I guess since I have difficulty measuring and I am the one that usually sees it down I don't see any progress, but others who don't get to see it down sees the progress.

So my little rant yesterday was stupid. I just need to be more patient.

Love your photo, Lacemitts!

Your hair is beautiful and I adore your home! What a charming wooden staircase! Is your home an older one or is it only styled that way? We bought a sixteen year old house that has woodwork to make it look like a much older place. Sort of Art Deco style, I think it is.

Hi Lisa!

July 3 2009, 2:37 PM

Thanks for the hair compliment. Our home is an oldie. Build after the Civil War, Victorian Queen Anne Style with a turret. The staircase there you see turns 4 times before you get to the second floor. You can get dizzy if you go down fast, and then continue on to the basement stairwell, which turns 3 times, LOL. I figure with so many steps, it is good exercise. Although, laundry in the basement, is not a fun trip!

I've had that happen

to me too! Glad that you got two compliments in one day! That's great!

I'm beginning to suspect that no matter what length we are our hair will never feel long - probably because it grows so slowly (to us anyway).

Progress from June 2006 - October 2008

2a/M/ii
Mid-Dark brown with natural red and silver highights; fringe/bangs.
Starting length 25"/62.5cm
Current length 35"/89cm
Goal 36"/90cm

Current routine: (Trying to keep it as simple as possible): WC on the weekend following medium oiling; scalp washes every second day; oiling 2-3 nights per week; mid-week conditioning with honey and ACV in water; S&D when I think of it; and dusting every 8-12 weeks.

Shampoo: Organic Instincts diluted with herbal tea (rosemary and chamomile).
Conditioners: A'Kin Protein or Moisturising Conditioner mixed with honey (1 tablespoon of each).
Oils: Favourite is almond oil. Occasionally will use a blend of coconut, almond, olive in the ratio 2:1:1 in summer or as a deep oiling treatment.
Other: ACV infused with herbs (depending upon availability I use a selection of lavender, rosemary, cinnamon, sage, and thyme); BBB; wooden comb; Mason Pearson comb; pure aloe vera gel for smoothing flyaways and fixing hair in place.

I think we are the last to notice...

July 4 2009, 12:41 AM

Strangely enough! We see our hair differently, shorter than it actually is. That's why pictures from the back are often helpful... it's a view we can't really see.

Very true...

I often find I think my hair is shorter than it really is.

CWC 2-3 times per week. Planning to switch S&C when my current ones are done- update on that as it happens.

Oils: Jojoba. I've tried others (EVOO, coconut, sweet almond), but this is my favorite & my staple now. I use it almost daily. It's also especially useful for putting extra moisture into my hair (esp the ends, which get really coarse) & taming its frizziness after washing. happy.gif

Brushes: BBB, wooden bristle brush, wide tooth comb as needed.
I brush nightly then wear my hair in a braid when I sleep.

trick for measuring curly hair

July 5 2009, 12:39 AM

One thing that helps me is measuring my hair when it's wet. This makes for a more consistent measurement from month to month, because with the water it's easier to straighten the curls all the way.

HTH!
