Well

July 5 2009, 12:53 AM

absolutely nothing. I did used to take Vit E because it helps with those pesky hot flushes but recently I've stopped and just ensure that I eat a serving of foods high in Vit E each day. I try to eat a healthy diet but sometimes I slip up. I've been getting a regular 1/2" of growth each month and I'm happy with that.

I'm already taking like six pills with two of my meals per day for my liver condition, so I'm not really concentrating much on stuff for my hair. However, a lot of what I take is herbal, so there might be some good side benefits from those that I'm not aware of.

Absolutely nothing.

I don't really "believe" in taking things to make my hair grow faster. Hair will grow no matter what you do, and anyway, I don't particularly care about having very long hair. In fact, I have it cut back to waist-length about once every year to 1.5 years, so I don't see any reason why I should spend money on that sort of thing. wink.gif

What I Take...

July 5 2009, 5:36 PM

I take a multivitamin, fish oil, and try to eat and drink healthfully. That was a mouthful! Lately, I've been thinking about adding biotin or hair vitamins.

Well,,,,,

July 6 2009, 10:23 AM

I had been taking 3000mg of biotin daily, but decided to take a month off from that. I usually take fish oil, vit E, and phytoplanktin. I also try to eat healthy and exercise daily. Starting today I am taking 1/2 of a multi vitamin for women after I have something to eat. I can never take the multi's on an empty stomach as it makes me sick.

Hi Roni

July 7 2009, 8:17 AM

I am taking:

One Daily Multiple - VitaminShoppe
Garlic 500mg - Puritan Pride
Biotin 1000mcg 2x - Puritan Pride
Flaxseed Oil 1000mg 2x - Puritan Pride
I am out of Vit C and Calcium at the moment.

Really, I am thinking of adding in GNC Ultra Nourishair to my routine.
Funny I found this post because I was thinking of this just this morning.

My doctor knows my vitamins and is fine with it. Still one needs to eat well, drink water, exercise and try and cut down on the stress - yep that one is hard.

Take care Roni

Re: What's everyone taking...

Well, I take a women's multivitamin from Rainbow (because my diet is not so healthy), and MSM (this is more to help with muscle soreness after workouts). I don't know if the supplements help my hair growth because I have been taking vitamins every day since childhood.

I was maintaining my length around 42 to 43 inches, but the ends stick out of my favorite bun at that length, so I am growing on toward my goal again.

Oils: Virgin Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, and sometimes almond oil.
Wash: Aubrey Organics shampoo and conditioner, Indian herbs, CV shampoo bars, or Dairy Whip. Wash approximately once or twice a week. Rinse with raw ACV, and final soak in catnip tea after washing. If hair gets sweaty or dirty between washes I rinse with water alone, or maybe ACV.
Sierra Legacy hardwood comb.
Sleep with hair in a homemade silk satin sleepcap when hair is dry, braided if hair is damp, and loose if hair is wet.

Scalp massage seems beneficial to my hair growth, when I remember to do it regularly.

Hi, Roni--

July 12 2009, 11:59 PM

I am so bad! You asked me how much biotin I was taking before and I missed responding and now I missed this post! Well, I don't care if it is on the second page, I will just respond anyway! LOL!

I take 5000 biotin. I do think, after some experimentation, that it is making me break out a little, so I will be cutting back to 1000. Maybe I will go back to 5000 in the winter.

I take a lot of supplements when I can afford to, but in regards to those that affect hair, I also take:

*B-vitamin complex
* iron, per my doctor's instructions. My iron stores are low. I was taking Slow FE iron and it wasn't doing much, so I switched to Floradix liquid iron and holy smokes! That stuff is amazing. However, it is extremely, extremely expensive, so I back on Slow FE for now. I also Vitamin C and L-lysine with the iron--supposedly they make it absorb better.
*zinc, also per my doctor's instructions. I have to take it away from the iron, however.
*a multi (rainbow brand)
*MSM (if I remember),
*fish oil. I take the fish oil because two doctors and a naturopath told me to take it for my health and they said it is better that flax (I am otherwise a vegetarian.)

I know that the biotin makes my nails grow much faster than usual, but I have not noticed such a dramatic difference with my hair. Still, I do think that they help.

I need to get more protein (for my health and my hair.)

Thank you for this post! Sorry I have been gone so much--

winterwren
