Catherine and I were at the Equine Behaviour Forum's day out to Lucinda McAlpine's Brackenhill stud in Henley on Sunday. Lucinda is an international dressage rider who keeps her horses barefoot, rugless, unclipped, turned out 24/7 and the horses are in mixed age/gender groups. Her stallion runs with his mares and is one of the most relaxed dressage horses I've seen in a long, long time....
It was an excellent day out but I'd like to go back and have more of a chance to ask specific questions and see in detail how the horses are managed. If I can bring together a group of 5 people, they'll lay on a day course, from 10:30 to 4:00 with lunch included, cost as far as I can tell is £75. If anyone's interested, mail me direct on: mcs@wiccan.demon.co.uk
Manda - Glad to see you there, and Catherine and everyone else who attended. I thoroughly enjoyed the discussions, watching the horses interacting in the indoor school while Lucinda talked about her experiences with natural management methods, and the guided tour of the stud. The weather was superb (though I was a little zonked by the end of the afternoon from the heat and having driven to Henley from Glasgow via Darwen, Lancs!).
Is it me or is that a LOT? I'd love to have gone on the original Workshop as reported by Catherine, but at those prices I'll have to remain a slightly richer onlooker!
