herd watching

I can't get enough of this. summer/winter whenever..and oh! how much we can learn.. equines use the minimum of vocalisation yet convey so much...got me thinking that voice ( thanks Janet(clicker training) for bringing this realisation to me albeit late in my equine life!) is not a necessity at all...also I watched over the last 10 days as a foal that came in from auction has become integratd to the established yet fluid herd here at our Herefordshire sanctuary... the new foal is now another baby for Gemma who produced her own foal here in the sanctuary in May...both babies are now an 'item' with Gemma acting as protector to them both.. this change ( from her running the new foal off on his full integration to ehrd life) to accepting him as in need of her care has happened over the last 36 hours...a lovely thing to watch....I could go on and on...if anyone would like to observe this established herd interacting please do come along..but wrap up warm!....the autumn winds are blowing
